ATTICA -- Tsutomu "Stony" Uyeda, 96, a former Attica resident, died
Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Woodview Health Care Center in Fort Wayne.
Born in McKenna, Wash., July 10, 1913, he married Fumiko Nakamura,
May 11, 1941, just before they were sent to Tule Lake, Calif., and
Sioux Ordnance, Neb., internment camps after World War II broke out.After
the war, they moved to Chicago where he owned Stony's Standard Service
Station. They then moved to Attica, where he worked for Radio Materials
Corp. until he retired in his mid-70s. He and his wife moved to Fort
Wayne in 1987. She preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2000.Mr.
Uyeda was Fort Wayne Men's Senior Bowling Champion, honored by the
Fishing Hall of Fame in 1978 for catching an 111/2 lb. walleye and a 7
3/4 lb. walleye in the same day.He had been a resident of Georgetowne Place Retirement
Community until his recent illness moved him to Woodview.Survivors
include his daughter, Cathy Plummer (husband: Steve) of Fort Wayne; and
two half sisters, Chikaye Hosooka in Hiroshima, Japan, and Miyuki
Machiba in Osaka, Japan. There is no calling or service. Arrangements by D.O. McComb &
