Crawfordsville Daily Journal Oct 11, 1917 -- Hillsboro, Oct 11 - James Ellis died
Wednesday evening at 8:30 at his home in Hillsboro, after haviang been in declining health
for the past two years. Mr. Ellis was born in Kentucky in 1840 and removed to Indiana
when 16 years old. He has been a successful farmer ont he same farm near Hillsboro for
1/2 a century. He was retired from active life and moved into Hillsboro six years ago.
Mr. Ellis was a Civil War veteran, having enlisted with Co. H, 72nd Indiana Regiment and
was a member of Prarie Chapel church and served on the town board. Surviving Mr. Ellis
are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Ada Ridge of Guthrie, OK; and Mrs. Gertie Pitman of this
place; one son, Alva of near HIllsboro; two brothers, John H. Ellis and Robert Ellis of
this place, and 3 sisters, Mrs. Laura Work and Mrs. Frances Brackford, both of Lafayette
and Mrs. Mary Cooper of Wesley. Funeral arragnements will not be completed unti lthe
daughter from Oklahoma arrives, which will probably be this evening.
