Crawfordsville Review, May 31, 1916 - Attica, Ind - May 30 - George Foley, 13-year-old son
of Gail W. Foley, was instantly killed last night about 6 o'clock by a south bound CCE
& I passenger train The lad, with his younger brother, Charles was standing on the
railroad tracks near where the Wabash RR crosses the CCE&I overhead, and they were
watching Wabash train NO. 53 west bound. The noise of the train prevented them hearing the
approaching train of the CCE&I. There is a curve at this point and the engineer
failed to see the boys until he was within about 10' of them. Then he blew his
whistle but he was too late. Charles realized the danger more quickly and jumped by his
brother was struck by the train and thrown into the weeds near the tracks. The engineer
stopped his train immediately and went back and there he found Charles by the boy's
side examining his pulse. His neck was broken and his skull cracked on the right side.
The body was brought to Attica and taken to the Coffing Undertaking parlors and prepared
for burial. The body was taken to the home later. The funeral arrangements have not been
made. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and was to have taken part in the Memorial day
exercises this afternoon.
