Crawfordsville Journal Review 24-Dec-1963 2:4- Mrs. Mae Dowden Dies in Hospital; Services
Friday- Mrs. Mae Dowden, 74, 803 E. Market St., died at noon Monday in Culver Hospital
where she had been a patient since suffering a fall at her home about four weeks ago. She
was born March 5, 1889 in Fountain County, a daughter of Julius and Olive Livengood
Keller. She married Oliver B. Dowden March 5, 1905. They were married at Wallace. Mrs.
Dowden had resided in this city the past 15 years. She was employed at St. Elizabeth’s
Hospital at Lafayette for a period of time and for 14 years was a nurse and matron at the
Lutheran Home in Mulberry. She was educated in Newtown school s and was a member of
Wallace Ladies Aid. She also was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and Ladies Society of
the church here. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. LaMoyne Utterback of Crawfordsville; a
brother, Floyd Keller of new Wallace; a sister, Mrs. Estel Perigo of Wayentown; three
granddaughters, Mrs. Ruth Hampton of New Market, Mrs. Kathryn Mitchell of Waynetown and
Mrs. Marilee Cummings of Crawfordsville; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her husband. The body was taken to Servies Funeral Home at Waynetown where friends may
pay their respects after 1 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m.
Friday at the Lutheran Church in Wallace with Rev. John Stacey officiating. Interment will
be in Lutheran Cemetery there.
Last Rites Conducted for Mrs. Mae Dowden- WAYNETOWN- Funeral services for Mrs. Mae Dowden
were held in the Lutheran Church at Wallace Friday morning, Rev. Mr. Stacey officiated and
piano music was played by Mrs. Hazel Stacey. Serving as pallbearers were Max Bond, Wilmer
Bell, Max Myers, Russell Thompson, Howard Anderson and Don Perigo. Flower bearers were
grandchildren- Lonetha Mitchell and Toni Mitchell- also Ronnie Bill Perigo, Johnny Perigo,
Lorie Perigo, Becky Perigo, Randy Perigo, Charlotte Meadows, Olive Meadows, Sharon
Jeffers, Helen Meadows, Virginia Runyon, Marietta Keller, Neva Dowden, Helen Dowden, Donis
Dowden, Mary Lou Dowden, Lela Lea Dowden and Cerola Bond. Burial was in the church
cemetery.
