William Ludlow seems to have been the author of a book of that title
about the ideas behind the Rational Brethren. (I hope to get access to
a copy while in the US this summer.)
There's also a book by Thomas Hamm, God's Government Begun: The
Society for Universal Inquiry and Reform, 1842-1846 (Indiana
University Press, 1996), which mentions him, the Rational Brethren,
the Coal Creek group, and their travails. You can google it --the
relevant bits are available on Google Preview.

We have very little info from William back just supposition. We
think he is
related (brother) to the Israel Ludlow who surveyed Cincinnati. I
know that
William "quarreled" with the Coal Creek group and left. I also know
that he
was involved in the founding or surveying of the College in Butler,
Ohio.
He is the reason I subscribe to this group hoping to learn more
about him,
but I am not very diligent about it.
I know almost nothing about the Coal Creek group and this is the
first time
I have heard of the Rational Brethren. I would love to learn more.
