Source unknown, news clipping scrapbook- George Whiting Of Veedersburg Dies At His Home-
VEEDERSBURG- George W. Whiting, 75, who was a black smith and school bus driver in
Montgomery County for many years, died at his home here Monday evening of a heart attack.
Whiting was born at Greenville, Mich., March 10, 1887, and came to the Veedersburg area at
age 16. He worked as a farm hand here for many years. He operated a blacksmith shop at
Mace in Montgomery County for several years and drove a school bus at Mace and
Russellville for a long time. He was a member of the Mace Methodist Church and the
Veedersburg American Legion Post. He was a veteran of World War I, serving 21 months in
the Army. He married Lucy Babb Feb. 18, 1920. She died in 1924 and he married Audrey Babb
Dec. 25, 1933. Survivors include his wife; a son Wilmer of Santa Clara, Calif.; a
half-sister, Mrs. Cora Brooks of Waveland; three grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Parham Funeral Home in Veedersburg with
Rev. Conway Rowland officiating. Burial will be in the Osborne Prairie Cemetery.
