Crawfordsville Journal Review, 1-Nov-1960, 2: 4- L. V. Ellis, Former AAA Secretary, Dies
In Hospital- WAYNETOWN- L. Vern Ellis, 67, died at 2:15 a.m. EST Tuesday at Culver
Hospital. He had been ill three weeks with a heart ailment, and had been in the hospital
two weeks. Born Jan. 29, 1893, in Fountain County, he was the son of Mrs. and Mrs. C. C.
and Ella Hughes Ellis. He attended school at Hillsboro. He married Elizabeth Gray, Jan. 2,
1917, at Crawfordsville. He lived 14 years in Fountain County after his marriage then
moved to his home southwest of Waynetown. The deceased was an active member in many
organizations. He was a member and deacon of the Ingersoll Chapel Church now disbanded
then became a member of the county 4-H Club and a member of the Wayne Township Farm
Bureau, serving as secretary for several years. Mr. Ellis also served on the township
advisory in Waynetown, was a member of the Waynetown Masonic Lodge and the Order of
Eastern Star. A
life time farmer, he served on the first farm program under the AAA in Montgomery County.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Lee Ellis, southwest of Waynetown, a brother, Dr. Ross
Ellis near Hillsboro, and a niece, Eileen Simmons of Crawfordsville. He was preceded in
death by a sister, Gladys Krug, and a nephew, Billy Krug. Funeral services will be held at
2 p.m. EST Friday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. Rev. Lewis Poore, pastor of
the Baptist Church in Waynetown, will officiate. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic
Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 p.m. Wednesday.
