Lavina Katherine Dickman, daughter of Lewis and Lucinda Butt Dickman was born March 4,
1870. She departed this life May 30, 1943, on the farm south of Veedersburg where she was
born and had always lived. She was one of a family of 8 children. One brother and two
sisters died in infancy. In later years, two half brothers, John and Henry and one
sister, Druzilla Alice, preceded her in death. The survivors are one brother, Calvin of
Crawfordsville, and James Darwacter at whose home she died. As a young girl, Katherine
became a member of the Christian Church. In later years she attended Prairie Creek
Baptist and Centennial Churches. On Feb 28, 1909 her sister, Druzilla passed away leaving
one child, James Darwactor, 14 years old. Katherine took this nephew into her home and
bestowed upon him her love and devotion. Jim continued living with her even after his
marriage. She so successfully took his mother's place that his children, Charles and
Mildred have always called her Grandmother. Katherine was a good neighbor. She enjoyed
exchanging visits and work with her neighbors. Only when her health did not permit did she
give up this pleasure. She was a great lover of flowers and spent much time in their care
and cultivation. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Fishero
& Son Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Howard in charge.
