Miranda D. Barker
Mrs. Miranda Dewlen Barker, 69, a resident of Covington, died at 8:00 p.m.
Saturday (May 16, 1959) at the Rudisill Nursing Home in Crawfordsville
where she had been a patient 12 days following a seven week illness.
Born March 5, 1890 in the Salem community, she was the daughter of James
and Matilda Zeigler Dewlen. She was married October 13, 1917 to Clay Barker,
who survives.
Mrs. Barker was a graduate of the Covington High School and had attended
Indiana State Normal University. Prior to her marriage, she taught in Fountain
County Schools for several years. She was a member of the Kingman Methodist
Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gwynn C. Mc Cord of Crawfordsville;
a brother, Noah of Indianapolis; two sisters Miss Clara Dewlen of Covington
and Mrs. Florence Switzer of Memphis, Texas and two granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
The body is at the Hegg Funeral Home in Covington where services will be
at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Donald Wade will officiate, with burial in
the Mount Hope Cemetery.
