Noah Dewlen, Age 84, Fountain County Native Dies in Indianapolis
Noah Dewlen, age 84, native of Fountain County and a resident of Indianapolis
for the past seven years, died at the home of his son, Smith Dewlen, 1442
Hiatt St., Indianapolis, at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 16. He had been in failing
health for seven years and seriously ill for one week.
Mr. Dewlen was born in this county September 11, 1876, the son of James
and Matilda Zeigler Dewlen. He was married August 11, 1899 to Hattie Ann
Smith, who survives. He had been a farmer most of his life and had farmed
in the Covington community until he moved to Indianapolis. He was a member
of the Assembly of God Church here.
Surviving Mr. Dewlen, in addition to his wife are five sons, Gerald of
East Saint Louis, Ill., Claude of Steubenville, Ohio, Smith of Indianapolis
and Mrs. Lucille Hancock of Stone Bluff; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Switzer
of Memphis, Texas and Miss Clara Dewlen of Covington; 11 grandchildren
and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, one
son, one daughter, two brothers and two sisters.
The body will be brought to the Hegg Funeral Home here where friends may
call after noon Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock Friday
afternoon at the Bethel Full Gospel Church in Covington. The Rev. Thomas
Paino of Indianapolis will officiate. Burial will be in the Bend Cemetery
northwest of Covington.
