Crawfordsville Journal Review 18-Feb-1964 7: 3- Carl Leighty, 74, Dies At Capital; Funeral
Thursday- HILLSBORO- Carl Leighty, 74, former Hillsboro business man, died in the
Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis Tuesday morning. He had been a surgical patient several
days. Mr. Leighty had resided at the Masonic Home in Franklin for the last two years. He
had spent most of his life in the Hillsboro and Mellott areas. The son of James and Lilly
Butts Leighty, he was born at Mellott. He was married to the former Alta Porter, who
preceded him in dath in 1959. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Tabitha
Banks. Mr. Leighty had been a grocer and meat market owner in Hillsboro. He was a member
of the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Rice,
Frankfort, and a brother, James Leighty of California. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday
at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Rev. Ross Kirk officiating. Burial will be
at
the Masonic Cemetery in Waynetown. Calling hours are Wednesday afternoon and evening.

HILLSBORO- Funeral services for Carl Leighty, who died at the Methodist Hospital in
Indianapolis Tuesday were held at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday with Rev. Ross Kirk, officiating. Organ music was by Mrs. Lucy Crumley. Those
serving as pallbearers were members of the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge. They were: Ernest
Myer, Robert Janeway, Bill Fishero, Virgil Hutts, Donald Harshbarger and Bob Bell. Burial
was in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown.
