Crawfordsville Journal Review 5-Dec-1962 14- Retired Farmer Dead At 85 In Fountain County-
COVINGTON- John C. Alcorn, 85, retired Fountain County farmer, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday
at his home on Rt. 2 Covington. He had been in ill health two years. A son of John H. and
Mary Alcorn, he was born in Jackson County, Kentucky, March 9, 1877. He was wed to Mary
Frances Wolfe in 1898. She died in 1933. He was married Feb. 10, 1945 to Lillie Mae Lamb,
who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Sally Brothers of Danville, Ind.,
Mrs. Elizabeth Combs of Independence, Kan., Mrs. Nellie May Hall of Rt. 2, Covington and
Mrs. Rose Morehouse of Danville, Ill., and 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Several children preceded Mr. Alcorn in death. He had lived in the Foster community the
last 18 years. Prior to that he resided in Blount Township, Vermillion County, Illinois,
near Danville. Mr. Alcorn was a member of the Baptist Church. Funeral
services are set for 3 p.m. EST Friday at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in
Covington, with Rev. Bertha Knox officiating and interment in Songer Cemetery at Tilton,
Ill. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday.
