E. Smith, 72, died at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville, where he
had been a patient since Sunday. He became seriously ill last Saturday. He was a son of
Edison and Katherine Smith and was born in Alamo June 18, 1889. He was married Dec. 2,
1916 to Muriel Ammerman in Crawfordsville. She died in 1940. He retired a year ago after
working eight years for the State Highway Department. He was a carpenter most of his life.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth of Alamo; a daughter, Mrs. Hazel David of Okinawa; a
sister, Mrs. Stella Myers of Alamo, and a brother, Atwood Smith of Waynetown. Besides the
wife, a sister and brother preceded him in death. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday
at the Service Funeral Home in Waynetown, where services are set for 2:30 p.m. Friday with
Rev. John R. Servies officiating. Burial will be in the Alamo Cemetery.
