Dead- WAYNETOWN- Elmer Haas, 79, retired farmer, died at 12:15 a.m. Friday in the Small
Rest Home. He had been ill since Nov. 20 and was in Culver Hospital for 30 days prior to
entering the rest home. He was born Dec. 7, 1883, at Newtown, son of Luther and Emma
Quiggle Haas. He married Ruth Ellis Mitchell Feb. 22, 1905, at Mellott. She died in 1953.
Haas lived most of his life in Fountain and Montgomery counties. He was educated in
Fountain County and was a member of the Mellott Congregational Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Austin Haas; a daughter, Mrs. Hildred Smith of near Waynetown;
two grandchildren, Barbara Haas Harwood and Larry Smith of Indianapolis; two
great-grandsons, and three half-brothers, Walther Haas, Roy Haas and Russell Haas of
Veedersburg. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Servies Funeral Home at
Waynetown. Rev. Don
Cutts, pastor of the Mellott Congregational Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will
be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m.
Saturday.
