Died Monday Morning
Mrs. SARAH JAMES, wife of Edmund D. James of Helt's Prairie, died at 7 o'clock
last Monday morning, January 11, 1904. She had been in poor health for a long time and her
death was no surprise to her friends. She was past 75 years of age and had been married
more than 50 years to the husband left to mourn her loss. Her maiden name was Hatton, and
at the time of her marriage she lived with her parents at Attica, Fountain County. She was
one day older than her husband who survives her. Three children, Mary Alice Vaughn, Thomas
Milton and William Hatton survive her. She had been a member of the Methodist Church all
her life and was a good christian woman. Her funeral occurred at Salem Church, Helt's
Prairie, yesterday afternoon, Rev. W.A. Matthews of Dana, her pastor, preaching the
discourse, after which her remains were quietly and sadly laid away to rest in the
cemetery, one-half mile west of the church.
