Hi, Sharon. Thanks so much for your information.
You are right about the data on Mary Riley, I'm sure. Cemetery vandalism is a problem
everywhere, I guess. I know it is really bad here in Lancaster Co. PA and it's a
shame since we have some noted figures from our country's earlier days buried here.
Lots of history.
I have searched the 1860 census for Wabash Twp, Fountain Co (where Mary is listed as age:
3/12 of a year), the 1870 census for Centerville Twp, Linn Co KS, the 1875 State census
for Otter Creek Twp, Greenwood Co KS, the 1880 census for Otter Creek Twp, Greenwood Co KS
and the 1885 State census for Otter Creek Twp, Greenwood Co KS, finding this family on all
of them. But only on the 1880 census is my grandfather listed as J. Charles.
His name, as he used to sign it, was Charles Jones Riley. I have no idea of the
significance of the "Jones", since his mother's name was supposedly Muir (I
have no hard evidence of this, however). Maybe she was a Jones?
Anyway, Thomas and Elizabeth were married in Philadelphia on 20 Aug 1849 , according to
obit records. The two oldest girls were born in PA someplace (haven't found that
yet).
I'll study the other info you sent, too. Maybe I'll find something new.
Thanks again for your help.
