Crawfordsville Journal Review 30-Jun-1961 p 6 -- Hillsboro - John W. Hyatt, 88, died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at his home here after a long illness. He was a retired sawmill and threshing machine operator. Mr. Hyatt was a son of George and Hannah Bryant Hyatt and was born Oct 15, 1872 in Shawnee Township near Stone Bluff. He was married April 26, 1899, to Etha Keefer. She died in March 1960. They lived on a farm where he also operated a thresher and sawmill, until 1909 when they moved to this community. Mr. Hyatt continued in the threshing and sawmill businesses here and for several years he was employed as an engineer at Remington. He retired in 1948. He was a member of Union Church west of Newtown. Survivors include a son, Harry of Lafayette; two daughters, Bernice at home and Mrs. Bessie Beck of Waynetown; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Hall of near Veedersburg and four grandchildren and 9 greats. A daughter, Mary Alice Brown and a son George are deceased. Friends may call Saturday afternoon and evening at the Crumley Funeral Home where services are announced for 3 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Homer Cole and Rev. John Coil officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 27-Dec-1965 p 4 -- Hillsboro - Mrs. Myrtle Hutchins, 86, died at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville at 10 p.m. Saturday after suffering a broken hip and arm in a fall at her home a month ago. She was born Sept 14, 1879, near Prairie Creek to William and Sarah Ann Huff Carter. She married Dan Hutchins at Harveysburg in December 1901. He died July 13, 1933. She was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church, the Fraternity Bible Class, the Circle III Christian Women's Fellowship Club and Cain Township HDC. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Ford of Hillsboro and Mrs. Josephine Clawson of Attica, a granddaughter and two great granddaughters. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hillsboro Christian Church, Rev. Charles Marshall will officiate. Burial in Rockfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home in HIllsboro after 2 p.m. Monday.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 8-Apr-1961 p2 -- Waynetown - Ida Imogene Hobson, 35, died at 8:02 p.m. Friday in Culver Hospital, where she had been taken at 2 p.m. Thursday. She had been seriously ill the last four months. She was born April 12, 1925, near Cates in Fountain County, a daughter of Donald and Bernice Newnum Walter. She attended schools at Cates & Kingman and was a member of the Cates Church of the Nazarene. She married Arnold L. Hobson at Terre Haute June 28, 1941. He survives with four children, Arnold L, Jr. John Edward, Tony and Linda Marie all at home; the father of Cates; the mother, Mrs. Bernice Lasley of Portland, ore; a grandfather, Milford Newnum of Wallace, a half-brother, Harry Lasley of Portland; and three sisters, Mrs. Harry Mathison of Crawfordsville; Mrs. John R. VanCleve of Albuquerque, NM and Mrs Irvin Beckley of Covington. Funeral rites are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Servies Funeral Home with Rev. Lewis Poore of the local Baptist Church officiating and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Crawfordsville.
Yes -- I have a county map that shows it -- corner of 450S and New Liberty Rd - in section 28 of Millcreek Township but across the road is Cain Township. New Liberty Road runs N-S from state road 32, between Scotts Prairie church and Scotts Prairie cemetery. It is boundary part way of Millcreek and Cain townships.
Quite an important church and area in times past. Church partly active yet -- not sure.

where the Furrs and Heslers lived southwest of Hillsboro.

Crawfordsville Journal Review 27-Sep-1963 p 5 ?? -- Waynetown - Private funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept 27, at the Servies Funeral Home for Leo Ingersoll, age 86 of Waynetown who died at 6 pm. Tuesday Sept 24 at the Small Rest Home. He had been seriously ill since June. The Rev. Guy E. Tremaine officiated. Burial was in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Born Aug 26, 1877 at the Ingersoll homestead in Fountain County, he was a son of Alonzo and Elmina Livengood Ingersoll. He was married in 1898 at Covington to Ida Bowman who preceded him in death in 1928. Mr. Ingersoll formerly farmed in Fountain County and later operated a service station in Waynetown for 25 years before retiring six years ago because of ill health. He was a member of Ingersoll Chapel Christian Church.

Hand dated April 19, 1963 (which is death date) -- Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, April 22, at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home for Dewey Samuel Babb, age 63, who died at 9:50 a.m. Friday April 19 at his home in Covington, Rt 1. He had been ill two years. Born Jan 29, 1900 in Fountain County, he was the son of John H. and Ellen Riley Babb. Mr. Babb was married June 14, 1924 to Lela Clodfelter. He was a member of the Yeddo Lodge 636, F&AM and served as Fulton Township assessor for 8 years. Mr. Babb farmed all his life. Survivors include his wife; a son, Leon of Covington; three daughters, Miss Nadine Babb of Brownsburg, Mrs. Eileen Smock of Brownsburg and Mrs. Lorene Tornquist of Attica; a sister, Mrs. Icy Allen of Cates; a brother, John D. Babb of Crawfordsville; four grandchildren and two step grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiated. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery where Masonic graveside services were held. Pallbearers were Ernest Pavey, ERnest Rayphole, Ora Abernathy, Sammy Allen, Harvey West and Amos Crowder.

Crawfordsville Journal Review 23-Nov-1960 p 2-- Waynetown - Bertie M. Sanders, 76, native of Jackson Twp, Fountain County died at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday at a Logansport hospital where he had been a patient for the past two and one-half years. His death was attrictued to pneumonia which developed after he suffered a broken hip a month ago. Born Oct 1, 1884, six miles south of Waynetown the deceased was the son of Ralph and Mary Elizabeth Deets Sanders. He never married. The deceased was a member of the Ingersoll Chapel Church until its disbandment. He spent all his life in Fountain County's Jackson Township prior to entering the hospital. Survivors include a niece, Mrs. Leslie Myers of Wallace and two cousins, Mrs. Stella Standish of Arlington Heights, Ill and Mrs. Henry Delpt of Marshal, ind. Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and a brother. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Servies Funeral Home here in charge of Rev. John Servies. Burial will be in Alamo Cemetery.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 26-Sep-1960 p 8 -- Hillsboro - Donald Hobart Voorhees, 61, suffered a fatal heart attack at 11:45 p.m. (Sept 24) Saturday at his home 5 miles south of here. He and his wife, Elva had just returned from Hillsboro and retired for the evening when the attack occurred.He was born March 3, 1899, a son of William and Lean Pitman Voorhees. He was twice married, first to Catherine Harness June 25, 1920. She died June 24, 1921. His second marriage was to Elva Brown. They were married Dec 24, 1921. Mr. Voorhees, a farmer, was a member of New Liberty Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, a son by his firs tmarriage, William of near HIllsboro and two sons by his second marriage, Wilbur D. and Donald L, both of near HIllsboro; a brother, Floyd of Hillsboro a sister, Myrtle Powers of Crawfordsville and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Voorhees and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crumley Funeral Home here with Rev. John Kirkpatrick of Ft. Wayne in charge. Burial in Rose Hill.
Kingman Star March 10, 1960 -- Mrs. Ida May Sowers, 83, died Wednesday night at the home of her bro-in-law, Claude Sowers, of Bloomingdale. She had been bedfast 6 months. Born 9-19-1876 in Fountain County, she was a daughter of David & Sarah Sowers Simmons. She was married to Harrison Alvis Sowers who preceded her in death in Oct 31, 1955. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Marinda Kiger in the Britton Nursing Home near Rockville and sev. nieces/neph. Funeral services were held Saturday with burial in Mt. Hope Cem. in Covington.

Born Feb 22, 1878 in Covington, he was the son of George W. and Carolyn Schneider Crane. He was married June 27, 1900 to Jennie Bever. They were married here. Mr. and Mrs. Crane observed their 60th wedding anniversary last summer. Mr. Crane was engaged in the grocery business here most of his life. He also was employed by Hopkins Syndicate Inc before his health began to fail. He was a member of First Methodist Temple of Chicago. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dr. George W. Crane, Jr. columnist and professor at Northwestern University and Dr. John E. Crane of Manhattan, kan; two daughtesr, Mrs. Willard Palmer of Gary and Mrs. Charles Wolverton of Tacoma, Wash; three sisters, Mrs. Lottie Moore of Vincennes, Mrs. Margaret Tremaine of Covington and Mrs. Lelia Hershberger of Ft. Wayne; 14 grandchildren and 17 great. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Hillsboro Methodist Church with Rev. Ronald Carlson, pastor of the church officiating. Survivors are 3 children, Pete Adkins and Mrs. Mary Froedge of Veedersburg and John Adkins of Danville, Ill; a brother, Ora Keys of Crawfordsville; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Veedersburg. Funeral seravices will take place at the Fishero Funeral Home at 3:30 p.. Tuesday. Burial in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 14-Aug-1965 p 2-- Hillsboro - Frank Bever, 80 of Farlington Kan son of Gideon and Zerelda Thomas Bever, former Hillsboro residents, died of a heart attack at his home. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Farlington, James Thomas, a cousin, his wife and daughter, Miss Wandaline of HIllsboro attended the service. Mr. Bever was a retired farmer and rural mail carrier for sevearl years and had visited relatives here. He is survived by his widow, two sons, three daughters and grandchildren.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 2-Sep-1960 p 8 -- Waynetown - Edith Glee Brunner, 65, died at 6:05 p.m. Thursday (Aug 31) in Culver Hospital where she had been taken Wednesday afternoon. She had been ill with a heart condition for the last six months. She was a daughter of John and Sarah Ellen Hybarger Osborne and was born May 14, 1895 in Wallace. She married Ira Brunner Jan 1, 1912 in that community. They lived the past 30 years five miles northwest of Alamo. Mrs. Brunner attended school at Wallace and the Wallace and Alamo Christian church. Surviving include the husband at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Dale Brunner of Crawfordsville; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Virginia Brunner of Ingalls, ind; two grandsons, James and Larry Brunner of INgalls and two sisters, Mrs. Nell Barker of near Kingman and Mrs. Ruth Dalger of Rockville. Preceding Mrs. Brunner in death were two sisters and two brothers. Funeral services are set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Servies Funeral Home here with Rev. Wilbur S. Campbell, 71, of Hillsboro died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette after a long illness. He was born June 15, 1889, near Stonebrook and his parents were Frank S. and Carrington Spinning Campbell (sic Frank Spinning and Carrington Vincent Campbell). On Jan 2, 1909, he married Opal Remster in Urbana, Ill. He was a resident of Founain County all his life and lived on a farm northeast of Hillsboro for the past 34 years. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. P.N. Myers of Indianapolis and Mrs. R.A. DeSutter of Attica; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hillsboro Methodist Church, Rev. Ronald Carlson will preside. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before the service. Friends may call at the DeSutter Funeral Home, attica after noon on Wednesday. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Hillsboro.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 3-Jan-1961 p2 -- Covington- Miss Hettie Elma Campbell, 100 years died at 7:35 a.m. Sunday in the Rudisill Nursing Home where she had been a patient since last February. Miss Campbell, who celebrated her 100th birthday last November with a party at the nursing home lived almost all of her life in Fountain County. She was born Nov 17, 1860 in Fountain COunty, a daughter of Samuel and Sarah Spinning Campbell. Miss Campbell was injured in a childhood accident and had been an invalid since she was 5 years old. Surviving are a brother, James Campbell, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 7 brothers and 4 sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Osborne Priarie Church with Rev. John Dulin in charge. Burial will be in Osborne Prairie Cemetery.
