Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Crawfordsville Journal Review 27 Aug 1956 p4 - Veedersburg - Gilbert Lightle, 75, retired farmer of this community, collapsed and died on a downtown street about 3 p.m. Saturday. He was pronounced dead on arrival when taken to the offical of a local physician. Death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Lightle was born March 22, 1881, to the late John and Sarah Rayburn Lightle. He was married in 1902 to Mable Brown. The deceased was a member of the Veedersburg K of P. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Merle French of Danville, ill; Miss Marie Bloomer of Ft. Worth; Mrs. Virginia Cadell of Pinehurst, Idaho and Mrs. Juanita Newman of Martington, ill; one son Carl of Lansing, ill and a sister, Mrs. Grace Odle of Crawfordsville. The body is at Fishero Funeral Home where friends may call and where services will be conducted by Rev. Samuel Pritchard at 3 p.m. Tuesday with interment in Rockfield Cemetery.
Crawfordsville Daily Journal 6 Aug 1926 p 8 - Veedesrburg, Aug 6 - James Gressmire, aged 72, died at his home here yesterday of paralysis. Mr. Gressmire was born in PA, the son of Godfrey and Eva Gressmire. He had been a resident of Veedesrburg for 50 years. Surviving are the widow; one daughter, Miss Edith Gressmire; four sisters, Misses Sarah, Elizabeth and Marie Gressmire, all of Veedersburg and Mrs. Lorena Johnson of Bowling Green and one brother, Charles of Danville, Illinois.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 27 May 1974 p 9 -- Hilsboro Mrs. Evelyn Hines of Hillsboro has received word of the death of a brother Lawrence C. Brown, 59 who died Tuesday in a hospital at Homestead, Fl. He had been in failing health 12 years. Born March 30, 1905 at Veedersburg, he was a son of Charles and NellieCartwright Brown. He was married to Helen Truman of Veedersburg in 1925. They were married at Covington. Mr. Brown was employed in civil service at midlothian, ill before he and his family moved to Homestead 10 years ago. He also served with the US Navy and Coast Guard. Survivors in addition to Mrs. Hinest includes the widow, 5 children, 3 brothers, Dallas of Long Beach, Calif, Arthur of Mishawaka and Floyd of Chicago and an uncle, Martin Switzer of Veedersburg. Funeral services will be conducted at Siucore Funeral Home at Homestead interment in aHomestead cemetery.
Crawfordsville Daily Journal May 1, 1905 p 2 - Waynetown April 29, 1905 - Friday morning at 9 o'clock Uncle Joe Brown died at his home 5 miles southwest of here at the advanced age of 77. He was born in 1828 in Hamilton County, Ohio from which place he moved to Fountain County, Indiana when yet a young man. He is the father of 7 children: JA and Henry living here, William in Texas, Mrs. Charlie Blackford, Mrs. Annie Wallace, Mrs. Rose Miller and one daughter at home who kept house for him. The funeral services occurred Sunday afternoon at 1:30 by Elder A. Plunkett. Interment in Masonic cemetery here.
Thanks for the reply regarding Mabel See's family. I did see those census
listings but I don't have these See's in my family tree so was hoping that
someone would know Mabel's parents. I will do a little more digging and
I'm sure that I will find the answers. My See family came from Kentucky,
Missouri and Iowa. There may have been some from Indiana too though. Cheryl
Crawfordsville Journal Review 29 Dec 1932 p 4 -- D.L. Brown and Mrs. Sarah Grissmire were notified Wednesday of the death of their sister, Mrs. Mary Akers which occurred that day at her home in Newman, Illinois. The deceased was 77 years of age and had been an invalid several years. Her early life was spent in Veedersburg. Funeral services will be held at Newman Friday. Several relatives from this city will attend that funeral.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 29 Dec 1932 p 4 -- Mrs. Vernon Holmes was notified Tuesday of the tragic death of her nephew, Hubert McNeese, which occurred 10 hours after he had fallen into a vat of boiling water at Task, California where he was employed in the oil fields. The deceased was 34 years of age and was born on a farm near Veedersburg. he was the son of John and Jane Isley McNeese. His wife died 4 years ago. Three children survive him. The funeral services and burial occurred in California.

Crawfordsville Journal Review 3-Jun-1976 p 2-- Veedersburg - Ethel Viola Hutchinson, 91, of Melott, died Wednesday afternoon in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Togheroh of Rt 4, Veedersburg (Stone Bluff). Mrs. Hutchinson had lived with her daughter prior to her death. Mrs. Hutchinson had been ill since 1967 and seriouly ill for the past 18 months. She was a life resident of Fountain and Montgomery counties and a resident of Mellott 25 years. She attended school at Wallace and was a housewife and practical nurse. Born Sept 4,1884 near Wallace she was the daughter of William A. and Margaret ann Whitaker Krout. She was married to Cleveland Hutchinson on Aug 29, 1906 near alamo. He preceded her in death Jan 11, 1950. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Bertha) Totheroh of Veedersburg and Mrs. marion (Margaret) E. Scott of West Point, ind; three sons, Ralph of Rt 1, West Lebanon; George of Rt 1, New Richmond and Russell Leon of Covington; a brother, Clarence Krout of Montezuma; 18 grandchildren 3 step grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 11 stepgreat grandhcildren; 14 great great grandchildren and a step great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, 3 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Stone Bluff United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Hoover officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery at Wingate following the services. Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home at Attica after 3 p.m. Friday.

She was a member of Hedges Chapter 51 Order of Eastern Star, the Bloomingdale Women's Club & United Brethran Church at Cates. She was graduated from Indiana State University. Born Nov 16, 1912, she was a daughter of William and Mabel See Baker of Cates. She was married Sept 28, 1935 to Delmas Davies of Lafayette. He preceded her in death in 1962. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Barbara) Cook of Bloomingdale; a son, Harold A. of Bloomingdale; a brother, Eugene Baker of Crawfordsville and 5 grandchildren. She had been in ill health for months and had been in the hospital a week. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She was a former owner of the Sunny Inn Restaurant and came to Veedersburg in 1946. Born June 15, 1907, she was a daughter of Amos and Bessie Sollars Sproul of Georgetown Ill. She was married to Alfred Rennison May 6, 1942 at Jacksonville, Fl. He preceded her in death in 1966. She married Benjamin Ghormley March 15, 1971 at Danville, Ill. Survivors are her husband; a son, John of Veedersburg; a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Nancy) Lightle of Veedersburg; two stepdaughtesr, Mrs. Robert (Jan) Buckman of Fenton, Mo and Mrs. Don (Bonita) Manasco of Shoshoni, Wy; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Betty) Large of Dandridge, Tenn; two grandchildren and 7 stepgrandchildren. Crawfordsville Journal Review 1 Feb 1947 p 4 -- Hillsboro, Feb 1 - James J. Williams, 84, for 35 years a bank cashier in Hillsboro died Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he had been a patient for only a few hours. He entered the hospital earlier Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Williams, lifelong residents of Hillsboro had been staying recently with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Roembke at their home in Indianapolis. Mr. Williams was born in hillsboro June 20, 1862, the son of Alexander Jackson Williams and Keturah Cecil Williams, pioneers of this community. He was married in 1889 to Fanny Fossett. Mr. Williams was engaged in the hardware business in Hillsboro many years ago. Then he entered the banking business in Hillsboro where he was cashier 35 years. He retired some years ago from active business life. Mr. Williams is survived by his widow; one daughter, Catherine, wife of Mr. Roembke; two grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. One brother, T.M. Williams of Hillsboro also survives. A brother, Herbert Williams and a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Carter preceded him in death. Mr. Williams was a member of the HIllsboro Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Knights of Pythias and Order of Eastern Star. The body will be at the residence in Hillsboro until an hour before the funeral service which will be conducted 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in HIllsboro Methodist Church in charge of Rev. Arthur Howell the pastor. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 9 Aug 1952 p 3 - Funeral services will be conducted Monday morning at the Meeks Mortuary in Muncie for Mrs. LaVanchia Wise, 69, former resident of Crawfordsville who died early Friday morning at Ball Hospital, Muncie. Death followed an extended ilnness. Mrs. Wise was the widow of John T. Wise. She was a sister of the late Harrison Young, former Crawfordsville police and fire chief. Brief graveside services will be held Monday at 12:30 pm. at Bunnell Cemetery in Frankfort where burial will take place. In charge of the funeral services will be Rev. Ray Burchfield, assistant pastor of the High St Methodist Church in Muncie of which Mrs. Wise was a member. She lived in Crawfordsville for a number of years and was employed as a beauty operator. Mrs. Wise was born in Newtown one of a family of four children. The children attended grade school at Newtown and the family moved to Indianapolis where they attended high school. In the family were three brothers, all dead. In addition to Harrison Young for many years a well known resident of Crawfordsville, another brother, John Young, resided in Indianapolis while the third brother, popularly known as "Brigham" Young resided many years in the Northwest. Prior to going to Muncie to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Berry last fall, Mrs. Wise resided for a number of years in Miami, Fl. Surviving in addition to the daughter, Mrs. Berry is a stepdaughter, Mrs. Russell Stropes of Indianapolis.

Mrs. Floyd lived most of her adult life in Hillsboro. >From Hillsboro she moved to Newtown about 4 years and then moved to Wingate where she resided for over a year prior to her death. Born Jan 16, 1894 in Washington County, ind she was the daughter of Daniel and Almeda George Bryant. She married Marion Floyd Sept 21, 1908 in Scottsburg. He survives. Mrs. Floyd was a member of the Mt. Eden Christian Church in Washington County. She was preceded in death by daughter, Edith and two brothers. Survivors in addition to the husband are a son, Glen Floyd of Newtown and two sisters, Mrs. Kizzy Hahn of Little Yord, Ind and Mrs. Ethel Bane of Wingate. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Crumley-Williams Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Rev. Goerge Phelps will officiate. Burial in Newtown Union Cemetery.

He resided at Lake Chatman near Warsaw. Mr. Thomas had been in failing health 3 years and seriously ill 10 days. Born June 23, 1883 at Waynetown, he was a son of Joseph and Mida Myers Thomas. He was married to Mary Jane Rice of Terre Haute who survives. Mr. Thomas attended school at Wallace. He also attended Bloomingdale Academy and taught school in Parke & Fountaon counties a number of years. In 1915, he became employed by the Internal Revenue Service. He retired from IRS work in 1955. Survivors in addition to the widow include a brother, Bon Thomas of Grange Corner a stepdaughter, Mrs. Homer Cushman of Jasonville; two nieces and six nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bibler Funeral Home, Warsaw. Interment in Oakwood cemetery there.

She had been a patient at the rest home several months. She was born Sept 28, 1891 in Terre Haute to Joseph and Mary Ann Thompson. She married Jewell Tinsley in Sept 1925. He died Dec 25, 1952. She lived in Hillsboro the past 40 years was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Requiem mass will be at St. Bernard's Church at 9 a.m. Tuesday with Msgr Ward officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Crawfordsville. Friends may call at the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home in HIllsboro after noon Monday.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 1-Mar-1966 p 6 -- Attica - Mark Maddux, 86, widely known farmer died at 5:30 a.m. Monday in the Community Hospital at Williamsport. Mr. Maddux also operated the Attica stockyards until his retirement from business 15 years ago. He was born Sept 13, 1879 at Philo, Ill. He was married to Jennie VanCleave who survives. He belonged to the Wingate Masonic Lodge. Other survivors include a grandson, Richard Maddux of Wingate and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at DeSutter Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Louis Haskell in charge. Burial in Riverside Cemetery.
