Crawfordsville Journal Review - 6 July 1936 -- Madison Shoaf is Found Dead - Former Fountain Co Resident Dies at home in Crawfordsville - Last rites for Maison H. Shoaf, who was found dead on the front porch of his home, in Crawfordsville, early Saturday morning July 4, 1936 were conducted at the Profitt & Sons funeral parlors in Crawfordsville. The services were in charge of Rev. Earl Moore and burial was in Wolf Creek cemetery near Wallace. Mr. Shoaf was found slumped over in a chair about 6 o'clock Saturday morning by George Parson. Mr. Shoaf's death was attributed to coronary thrombosis by Coroner Charles ??? who investigates. The deceased, who was an employee of the Oriental Brick Company at Crawfordsville was born in Fountain County, May 26, 1878, the son of Henry and Alice Pilkington Shoaf. He married Elizabeth Zachmire in 1901. Mr. Shoaf had been a resident of Crawfordsville since 1916 having moved here from Veedersburg. Survivors re 5 children: Orvill, Leroy, Mary and Olive and Mrs. Myra Rhoades and three grandchildren. A daughter, Finele preceded him in death.
Kingman Star Feb 9 1944 -- John O Shoaf, 65 former Veedersburg businessdman died Tuesday afternoon at his home in Danville Ill it was learned here today. Death followed a stroke of paralysis which he suffered Sunday. Mr. Shoaf was born Jan 11, 1879 near Wallace the son of Henry and Marietta Beaver Shoaf. He was married November 30, 1907 to Mary Vickery who survived together with the mother, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. James Redenbaugh of Kingman. Mr. Shoaf was in bussiness in Veedersburg for a number of years, later operating a grocery store in Danville until his health failed. He had resided in Danville since 1930 the family home being at 2624 Cannon St. The body was brought to the Crumley & Sons Mortuary in Covington. The funeral is at 2 o'clock Friday aft at Centennial Church east of Yeddo. Rev John Servies of Crawfordsville will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery adjacent to the church.
Kingman Star Friday, Nov 16, 1956 p 1 -- Mrs. Maggie Shoaf, 85 widow of James Shoaf, died Wednesday at the home of a son, James Shoaf, near Pine Village. A native of Parke County, Mrs. Shoaf was born 3-18-1871 the daughter of Wm. and Elizabeth Clore. She married James Shoaf 9-4-1891. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church. Surviving, in addition to the son at whose home she died, are two other sons, Ora Shoaf and Wm. Shoaf of Kingman; a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Floyd of Newtown, a brother, Alfred Clore, of Wallace, 14 granchildren and 22 greats. She was preceded in death by a son, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Woodrow Funeral Home, Kingman, followed by burial at Lutheran Cemetery near Wallace.

Crawfordsville Journal Review 1 Nov 1948 -- Everett Shoaf, Veedersburg, resident for many years died Sunday morning (31 Oct 1948) at the age of 66 at his home after an illness of over 2 months. He was born in Parke County July 12, 1882, theson of Jacob and Martha Wilson Shoaf and was married to Miss Cecil Kerr of Veedersburg. He was a member of the EUB Church. He is survived by the widow; two sons, Norman and Berl of Veedersburg; two duaghters, Mrs. Geneva Rutledge of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Josephine Mitchell of Veedersburg; two sisters, Edna Oblinger of Veedersburg and Mrs. Belle Hack of Cayuga; a half brother, Claude Clark of Yeddo; a half sister Mrs. Mary Hawkins of Veedersburg; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Fishero Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Todd and Rev. William Buesching, officiating Burial was in Bonebrake Cemetery.

Crawfordsville Journal Review 25 Oct 1960 -- Mrs. Emma Elizabeth Spragg, 85, died at 4 a.m. CST Tuesday at her home near here. She had falled Aug 24 and fractured her hip. She was confined in Culver Hospital until two weeks ago, when she was taken home. Death resulted from complications in the injury. Mrs. Spragg was botn Febryart 5, 1875 near Wallace to Henry and Phrana Schuler Shoaf. She was educated in Freedom & Grays schools. She married Everett Spragg Nov 29, 1893 near Wallace. He died Aug 3, 1957. She was a member of the Wallace Lutheran Church and lived her entire life in the vicinity of Wallace. Survivors include 3 sons: Oral, Clifford and Paul; three daughters, Mrs. Estle Stockdale; Mrs Omma Carter and Mrs. Phrana Butler; a granddaughter who was reared in the Spragg Home, Mrs. Verna Garrett; 5 additional grandchildren; 10 geat. grandchildren and nieces & nephews. Friends may call at the family home near Wallace. Services will be at the Wallace Lutheran Church Thursday October 27 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Richard Graef will officiate. The body will lie in state at the church for the hour preceding the services. Burial will be in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Crawfordsville Daily Journal, May 24, 1922 -- Claude V. Shoaf, a farmer living near Waveland died yesterday afternoon at 12:45 o'clock at his home, following an illness of spinal meningitis. Mr. Shoaf was born April 30, 1887 in Parke County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Shoaf. He was married to Madge James in 1906. He had been ill since Aug 16. Deceased was a member of the Waveland Christian Church and was prominently identified with the affairs of the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias lodges here. Mr. Shoaf is survived by his widow and four children. Donovan, Wayne, Norma and Eileen; his father and one sister. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of the Rev. James C. Burkhardt of the Christian Church of Crawfordsville.
Waveland Independent, Aug 25, 1922 -- Claude Shoaf was taken seriously ill on Thursday of last week and died at one o'clock on Wed. afternoon. His malady was diagnosed as a form of spinal trouble akin to infantile paralysis. As this disease is considered to be infectious the fun. services this afternoon at the home North of Townn at two o'clock will be private. Burial at Maple Ridge.
Rockville Republican 9-18-1952 - Samuel H. Lindley, age 85, died at his home in Kingman, Thursday Sept 11 after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Lindley was a retired farmer and had lived most of his life in the Kingman community. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Rush Creek church in Liberty Twp and burial was in Rush Creek cemetery. Mr. Lindley was born in Parke County July 7 1867 the son of George and Sarah Woody Lindley. In 1892 he was married to Ella M. Swaim who died in 1934. A son, Kenneth and daughter Constance also preceded him in death. He is survived by three daughtesr, Juanita at home; Mrs. Glee Garrard of near Montezuma and Mrs. Ruth Pickard of Bloomingdale; three sons, Flaud and HIram of near Kingman and George of Crawfordsville; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Moffet and Mrs. Mary Glasscock, both of Covington; a brother, Rev. Crawfordsville Daily Journal 27 July 1904 - Albert E. Livengood, eldest son of Elias and Sarah J. Livengood was born July 27, 1862 in Fountain County, Indiana and died July 24, 1904 aged 41 years 11 months 27 days. He was united in marriage to Annie L. Thompson, only daughter of William and Margaret Thompson of Montgomery County, November 30, 1882. To this unionwas born 7 children of whom two died in infancy, a daughter and son have preceded him while three daughtesr and two sons, one son-in-law and grandson remain with his wife. A mother, three brothers, and one sister are left to mourn his death. Deceased united with the Church of Christ at the early age of 15 at the old Scott's Prarie Church, Fountain County under the ministry of HC Castle.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 23 July 1955 - Sterling - Miss Phyllis Bruner, 28, died Friday at Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis. Death was attributed to Hodgkin's disease. born in Fountain County on May 12, 1927, she was the daughter of Harven and Eleanor Philpot Bruner. She attended Kingman schools. Surviving besides the parents are two sisters: Mrs. Kathleen Adkins and Mrs. Mary Alice Shaffer and four brothers: Max, Bob, Reed and Wayne. Funeral. services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Freedom Church near Wallace, with Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery. The body will lie in state for one hour before the services. Friends may call at the Woodrow Funeral Home in Kingman afternoon today.
Crawfordsville Journal-Review Nov 23 1928 p 1- Mrs. Harriet Bettie Hall, widow of William T. Hall and for several years a resident of Crawfordsville is dead at her home in Rockford, Illinois. Mrs. Hall passed away Thursday morning death being caused by a complication of diseases. She had been in declining health for the past year and seriously ill the past two weeks. Mrs. Hall was born Oct 1, 1851 near Wallace, the daughter of Valentine and Celia Bowman Bruner. She was united in marriage to William T. Hall Jan 7, 1873. Mr. Hall died Oct 22, 1887. Mrs. Hall was a member of the Christian Church of this city and had spent most of her life in Fountain and Montgomery Counties. Mrs. Hall lived for awhile in PA and for the past three years had been a resident of Rockford. The surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Frank Herron of the Ridge Farm community south of Waynetown; Mrs. Mary Brom(?)way, Lula B. Hall and Zora Hall of Rockford; one son, Edgar T. Hall of Yeddo; two sisters, Mrs. Bales of Clermont and Mrs. Shaffer of Covington and three grandchildren. The body will be brought to this city over the Monon Saturdady afternoon at 1;30 and will then be taken to the home of Mrs. Herron south of Waynetown. Funeral services will be held at the Waynetown Christian church Sunday afternoon at 2 with Rev. AC Burkhardt and Rev. John Servies in charge. Burial will be made in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 7 June 1963 -- Mrs. Ivy M. Myers, 79 of the Hillsboro community died in her sleep Thursday in the Rudisill Nursing home in Covington. She had gone to sleep after lunch and death came at 2 p.m. Mrs. Myers was the daughter of Levi and Stella Frazier Livengood and was born on a farm south east of Hillsboro on November 6, 1883. All of her life was spent on the same farm with the exception of the past few years that she and her husband spent in Nursing homes in Crawfordsville and Covington. She was married to Hamilton Myers who survives. The only other survivors are cousins. Mrs. Myers was a member of the Prarie Chapel Church of this commun and had served as secretary of the Ladies Aid Society for a number of years. Funeral services were held at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro at 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Orville Woody of Whitestown a former pastor at Priariie Chapel officiating. Organ mucis was by Mrs. Lucy Crumley. The pall bearers were: Albert Davidson; George Hesler; Tom Holt; Ed Hoffhauser; Virgil Ellis and Gene Stockdale. Burial was the Masonic Cemetery in Waynetown.

Frank E. Livengood, who is well known here, was fatally injured on Sunday night, about 9 o'clock by a Ben Hur car at the Gegg stop, 5 Mi. E. of Crawfordsville. Mr. Livengood, with his wife were waiting to come to Crawfordsville. Mr. Livingood (sic) was standing on the track attempting to signal the car by striking matches. He miscalculated the nearness of the car, which struck him, crushing his head and inflicting injuries that resulted in death at the hospital an hour and a half later. He never recovered consciousness. Mr. Livengood, was an employee in the Elston Bank. Mrs. Livengood was formerly Miss Rose Canine, of this place. She tried to pull her husband off the track and in so doing had one hand seriously injured. Much sympathy is expressed for her tragic berevement. Jesse and Robert Burford attended the funeral on Wednesday.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 2 Jan 1942 p 3 -- Arista T. Livengood, 74, prominent practicing attorney of Fountain County for over 50 years died at his home in Covington about noon Thursday January 1, following an extended ilnees. He was the son of Solomon and Elizabeth Day Livengood and was born Sept 10, 1867 in Jackson Township, Fountain County. For several years he served as attorney for the city of Veedersburg. Survivors are: the widow, Mrs. Caddy Livengood, two daughters, Miss Avolene at home and Mrs. Bernard Webb, Washington, Indiana. There are also two brothers, V.E. and Ora Livengood, Covington and two sisters,Mrs. Jane Booe, Crawfordsville and Mrs. Nellie McKee Hillsboro. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Covington with Rev. O.W. McGaughey officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Crawfordsville Review Mon Jan 31, 1916 -- Mrs. Nancy A. COOPER, one of the old and repected residents of Wayne Township died at her home two miles west of Waynetown Saturday afternoon at one. Mrs. Cooper was 84 years old and was the widow of Lemuel Cooper and one of the pioneer women of Indiana. She was the daughter of Daniel and Barbara Cooper (sic - she was a Bever, married Cooper) and was born in Fountain Co Sept 9, 1831. Mrs. Cooper had been ill a long time from complications of old age but Brights Disease was the immediate cause of death. This is the 3rd death that has occurred in the Cooper family during the last two months. On Dec 2, a daughter Mrs. Newkirk died of milk sickness and Jan 5 a grandson Halcey Newkirk succumbed to the same disease. Mrs. Cooper is survived by three brothers, Stephen, George and Orlando all of Missouri and a granddaughter Mrs. Ross Ellis of Hillsboro. The funeral will be held from the home on Monday with Rev. TJ Lough in charge. Burial will be in Masonic cemetery, Waynetown.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 17 Jan 1974 p 3 - Hillsboro, Ind. - Miss Martha E. Bever, 64, of Hillsboro, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan 17, 1974 at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsvillle. She had been a patient for one week. She was born January 19, 1909, near Veedersburg, the daughter of Henry and Effie Leonard Bever. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. John (Hazel) Houser of Crawfordsville Rt 6 and Mrs. (Daisy) Birch of St. Charles Mo; and a brother Harvey Bever of Hillsboro. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother. She was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church and United Mehtodist Women. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Crumley & Williams Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Rev. Dorman Winger will officiate. Burial in Rockfield Cem. near Veedersburg. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 22 June 1960-- Hillsboro, Ind- Henry Russell Bever, 48, of HIllsboro, died at noon Tuesday June 21, 1960 at the Veterans Hospital, Indianapolis where he had been a patient a week. He was employed as a mechanic at the Kerr Implement Company in Mellott. Born Feb 11, 1912 near Hillsboro, he was a son of Henry C. and Effie Leonard Bever. He was an Army veteran of WWII. Surviving are his mother. four children, Rita, Sandra, Pamar and Kennth; a brother, Hardy and four sisters, Mrs. Merle WIlliams, Mrs. Daisy Birch; Mrs. Hazel Houser and Miss Martha Bever. The body is at the Crumley Funeral Home with funeral arrangements incomplete.
Waveland Independent, June 23, 1922 -- Effie L. Mitchell, daughter of Elijah & Mary E. Beaver, was born near Wallace, Fountain County in Feb 25, 1903. Here she grew to womanhood and on November 13, 1920 she was united in marriage to Fred Mitchell and to this union one child was born, a son. In her girlhood days she attended the public schools and later Wallace HS. Some years ago she united with the Christian Church at Freedom and continued membership there to the end. Some time after her marriage she and her husband took up their home near Byron, in Parke County, and here were surrounded with all that makes young life happy they were spending their happy married life. Almost without a moments notice she was stricken with that dreaded disease, pneumonia and while all was done for her that an attentive husband, a loving mother and father, other relatives, friends and physicians could do yet without avail for in the morning hours of Tuesday, June 13th, she passed into the great beyond leaving to mourn, her husband, father, mother, three brothers, Orra E, of Wyoming; Charles A of Wallace and Delbert who resides with his father and mother, other relatives and a host of friends. She was an obedient daughter, a devoted wife and sister, a loving mother to her 7 months old son, a true friend, a Christian woman. Her life was one of cheerfulness and her effort was to make others happy and it was her hope to live that she might raise her baby. But it was not to be. She has paid all debts all must pay, but we will not say that she is dead. (poem). Funeral services on Thursday at Centennial Church near Yeddo were in charge of Rev. Mr. Smitthee of Bryon. I wish to thank all of my friend, neighbors and relatives for illness of my wife, and for their sympathy on her death.

Crawfordsville Journal Review 3 July 1978 -- Wallace, Ind - Charles A. Bever, 80, of Kingman Rt 1 died at 9:35 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 1978 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill. He had been a patient there one week. Bever, a retired farmer, was former owner of Yeddo Grain Company. He lived in the Wallace area all his life and was a 60 year member of Freedom Congregational Church. He also was a 50-year member of Wallace Masonic Lodge 495 and member of the Wallace Low 12 Club. He was born in Fountain County December 8, 1897 to Elijah and Mary Shoaf Bever. He married Lamoine Barker Nov 13, 1920. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters Mrs. Jack (Virginia) Starnes and Mrs Paul (Vivian) Goben; 7 grandchildern; 7 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and a sister. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Freedom Congregational Christian Church, Wallace. The Rev. Goerge Huff will officiate and burial in Centennial Cemetery north of Kingman. Visitiation will be after 2 p.m. Monday in Thomas Funeral Home in Wayentown, where Masonic services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday. The family has asked that memoriasl be in the form of donations to the donor's favorite charity.

Bever -- Bloomingdale, Ind -- Bruck Clue Bever, 77, a resident of the Wallace community most of his life, who moved to Bloomingdale in 1953, died at noon Thursday July 14, 1960 at his home in Bloomingdale. Born April 5, 1883 near Wallace, he was the son of George and Sarah Cory Bever. He was married August 17, 1910 to Laura Lock, who survives. Mr. Bever was a member of the Freedom Christian Church and Wallace Masonic Lodge. Other survivors include a son, Clinton of Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Samuels and Mrs. U. Brown, both of Kingman, a brother, Claude of Kingman, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Zella Wilson. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Freedom Christian Church. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs will officiate with burial in Centennial Cemetery. The body at the Davies Funeral Home, Mashall, Ind where friends may be received after 2 p.m. Friday.
