This appears to be Isaiah Biggs, one of Reuben Biggs' sons. You're right this does look interesting....he's also a neighbor of Josiah Biggs' family: this family was related by marriage to the Remsters.
I'll do some more digging on this Samuel. He was married more than once. I found him so far on the censuses of 1850 and 1880.

I found something interesting. Remember I mentioned that Samuel Wood? I went back to the 1850 census for Pike Twn in Warren County. Living with this Samuel and his wife are their 5 children, plus a 23 male by the last name of Biggs. I cannot get his first name read since it's not clear. See if you can read it.
For the children to be living with Nancy Wood? She could be the older sister to this Samuel? To get a Wood and Biggs connection, this is just too coincidental.

Hi Sharon,
Thanks for your reply. I'll check into this Samuel Wood in Warren Co. The Clem family has a Nancy Wood in their genealogy from Virginia, though it's not the same person.
This is really one of the most difficult problems in my family research----just for the sheer lack of information. In Frank Lingly's case, I have nothing about him other than his naturalization, marriage date and the 1880 census. He died in Cheneyville, Illinois in November, 1892.
All that I have for Laura is the two censuses and her obituary. (dated 4/5/1892). Her obituary mentions her husband and children and no one else. I don't know what happened to her brother or sister. Three of her four children survived the epidemic of 1892 and, with the possible exception of the daughter who went to the Remsters, the others don't seem to be in related families.
Still these surnames keep turning up together. But the question is: the Biggs in Warren Co was a fairly large family---how does it happen that we don't know of any in-laws or anything?
Anyway, let me know what you think--------ERIC

The family names you mention seem to mostly be in Warren County. I have looked and looked for info for Laura Biggs. Laura said that she and both parents were born in Indiana. I did wonder what the relationship is to this Nancy Wood. Living close to one of the Biggs family in Warren County in 1850..I think..is a Samuel Wood who was 49. He was born in Delaware. I am wondering if he is related to this Nancy.
While at the Covington library today, I saw a family book on the Remster family. Starting with Johan Georg Remster who married a Margaetha. They had a son Freiderich born in 1750 who died in NJ. Frederich married about 3 or 4 times. He and his wife Julianna had 8 children, one of whom was Benjamin who was born in 1797. Benjamin married 4 times. With his wife, Keziah Campbell, they had 10 children, one of who was Phenias A. born in 1840 in NJ. He died in 1862 in Fountain County and buried in Brown Cemetery in Shawnee Township Phenias married Mary Brown. They had a son, Phinias T. who married Sarah Rusk.
I looked through this Remster book to see if I saw any mention of a Biggs who married into the family, but didn't find any. Also, I saw that Salem County, New Jersey seems to be where these families originated from.

Hi Sharon & Pat,
Thank you for the lookup on the Remster family. But sides of my family have considerable ties to Fountain County.
Anyway, regarding the Biggs family, I also thing there is a relationship between them as well as other families in Fountain Co. Here is what I have so far, I'm posting them here in case any other researchers or intrested or knowledgable parties can make a connection. These families all are from Fountain, Warren, or Benton counties.
As you know, my gggrandmother Laura Biggs was an orphan along with her siblings Martha and Harvey.
1. REMSTER--Phineas Remster adopted one of Laura's daughters. He appears on the census of 1880 in Fountain Co. as a neighbor to the Linglys and on the 1860 census his family is living next to the adopted home of Laura. He was the son of Phineas REMSTER and Mary BROWN. His family came from the same part of NJ as the Biggs are said to have come.
2. AYLES--Apparently a large family of daughters. Two of them married Reuben and Lemuel BIGGS and they were related by marriage to the REMSTER family.
3. DIXON---There is a marriage record for Uriah Biggs and Jane DIXON. Harvey Biggs, in 1880, was living with Zachariah CLEM and his wife, Elsie DIXON. A man named Lloyd DIXON was an attendant at my ggrandfather's funeral--he was from a family in Ambia, son of William DIXON and Lona BROWN.
4. CLEM---Harvey Biggs lived with Zachariah CLEM. One of Zachariah's sisters married Newton Biggs HIATT and his mother was reputedly a daughter of Josiah Biggs.
5. BROWN--Married into the Remster and Dixon families.
6. ALEXANDER---A woman similar to Martha Biggs is in the 1870 census with this family in Johnson Co., Indiana. This family was married into the CLEM family.
7. WOOD--The three orphans wee living with a Nancy Wood from Virginia in the 1860 census. The name WOOD appears in the CLEM genealogies.
All of these families, including the Biggs were in SW Ohio before coming to Indiana.
Based on these circumstances, I'm inclined to think that the parents of these three orphans were Uriah Biggs and Jane Dixon. But's that's only a theory- ---do any of these names sound familiar?
Looking for any info on Harriet Askins who moved from Crawfordsville to
Covington around 1863 and died in 1901. Don't know where in Covington she is
buried. She owned a farm and lived with daughters Elizabeth Thompson, Susan
Johnson, and Hattie (Harriet) Grant. If anyone has the book history of
Fountain Co. could they please look this family up.
Thanks in advance,
Patrice Wilson

I find a Phinias Remster who married a Sarah S. Rusk in Vermilion County, Illinois on Jan. 12, 1891. Phinias and Sarah are living in Grant Township in Vermilion County in 1900.
I find Sarah S. Rusk in the 1880 census living with parents, Josiah and Melinda. Josiah married Melinda Brown on April 21, 1864 in Fountain County. The Rusk family and the Remster families were both living in Shawnee Township.
Vermilion County did have the middle initial for Phineas as F instead of a T, but I would guess that that is a mistype.
Also, the book HISTORY OF FOUNTAIN COUNTY INDIANA 1983 has family histories. The Remster family is included in this book.

Hi Sharon,
Thankd for the suggestion. I sure do know what you mean. I have been

Good Evening,
I am taking a wild shot in the dark here and hope that I can hit some luck.
I do not know what county in OH this Joseph HARDESTY was born in, in fact I
know very little about this gentleman except I found him living in Davis
County, IA and that is where he died ca 1851. I believe he had a daughter
Elizabeth that married a Joseph FOUNTAIN in Davis Co., IA as he was the
administrator of the estate of Mary HARDESTY that was the wife of Joseph
HARDESTY. She may have been the 2nd wife but I am not certain of this.
There is a possibility that this family lived in IN prior to finally
settling in Davis Co., IA
Below please find the information that was on the 1850 census for Davis Co.,
IA.
Joseph HARDESTY, age 57 , farmer born in OH
Mary HARDESTY, age 44, born in VA
Children:
Joseph HARDESTY, age 21,, born in IA
Nancy HARDESTY, age 19, born in IA
Garrett L. HARDESTY, age 12, born in IA
Jacob HARDESTY, age 9, born in IA
Charity HARDESTY, age 7, born IA
Any assistance, suggestions, etc. is greatly appreciated .
Thanks and have a good evening,
Patsy Hardesty-Sutton

My GGGrandfather, EZRA ROUND was married in Fountain Co. in 1837 to Elizabeth Scouten. His name was spelled as ROWN and her's as SCOTTEN. We believe that his parents were PHILIP ROWAN/ROWND/ROUND AND MARY DICKINSON. A decendent of JOSEPH ROWAN stated that his parents were PHILIP AND MARY (DICKINSON) ROWAN.
PHILIP was in Fountain Co. census in 1850 and only Mary Dickinson was in the 1860 census. Believe that PHILIP died between 1850 and 1860. Would appreciate Any info on this family !!!!!!!!!! Many Thanks. PS Philip was born in 1770 and Mary abt. 1792.
