My mother is a member of the Lewsader family of Fountain County. I am confused as to the various spellings but perhaps we could find a common link up here. Her father was Herschel Lewsader the oldest of 3 sons born to William Lewsader and Ida B. McCoy. Hope you can add to this. Sandy

Hi Sharon, yes there was a sister Jennie. The funny part is I have her as officially Sarah Ann Caplinger. Jennie doesn't sound right as a nickname for Sarah Ann. In 1915 when my gr. grandmother, Mary Elizabeth died, Jennie was Jennie Spurrier and was living in Champaign, Illinois. I haven't found a death certificate for Franklin and Rachel Ann, and I did look in Lafayette. I'm not sure if I looked for it in Montgomery Co.
Franklin and Rachel are buried in Indian Hill Creek Cemetery in Brown's Valley which may be a part of Waveland. Franklin died in 1891 and Rachel in 1895, that's from the cemetery stones. So many unanswered questions. Thanks again for finding the Caplingers in the 1880 Census! Ruth

you are welcome, ruth. but it got me to wondering where franklin and rachel went. so i got on the census for the united states and it showed both a franklin and rachel in indiana. so i got the indiana disc out and checked it out. in the u.s. census it showed the name starting with a c. in the indiana census, it starts with a k. that happens sometimes. so i wonder if this is them living in tippecanoe county with a girl named jennie. did rachel have a sister by that name?

Sharon, thank you for looking up the Hoffmans and Edna Caplinger. I really appreciate you taking the time to hunt them up. I actually didn't know anything about Henry Hoffman and his parents. Edna living with the Fosters, who were her mother's family, was a surprise. Some times life's little mysteries are so interesting. Again thank you for your time and your interest. Ruth
