Seeking info about Edward J. Grubb/Grubbs and his wife Lula M.
They appear together, but childless, in the 1920 Troy twp census. Edward is a farm owner, 46, born in Virginia and parents b. Virginia. Lula is 33, born Illinois and parents b. Ohio.
Lula M. appears in the 1930 Troy census as a widow, 43, owns farm.
I believe this may be the same Lula M. Grubb who married my grand father, Nelson E. Darrow, in 1932 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. The marriage license says she is from Rockford, Illinois.
In 1933 my dad wrote in his diary of meeting his new mother. While traveling across country from Norfolk, Va. they stopped to check on Lula's farm near Danville.
I would like info on both but especially any info on Lula.
Contact me at retduck(a)cox.net.

Roselyn,
Well I descend from Elizabeth BECHTEL's son Daniel.... and Daniel, and Daniel and Daniel.... haha!
OMG this family!!! Working on my husband's genealogy has ben fairly simple- French-Canadian Catholics, they married one time (usually) and died married to the same person! But anywhere else on my side of the tree and forget it! Illigetimate children, 4-6 marriages, you name it! I have definitely been confused and sat many a night with my mouth open staring at the screen trying to figure some things out!
Okay, I found someone in Fountain Co., IN that looked-up Elizabeth BECHTEL's Silver Island Cem. tombstone for me at http://www.glenmar.com/~emoyhbo/
He replied the tombstone says VERBATIM-
Elizabeth Wann
wife of Jacob Wann
died Feb. 13, 1850
aged 87 yrs.4mos & 27ds
"Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord"
He did say that the 27 days was a guess because the stone was very well worn. Subtracting 87 yrs., 4 mos. and 27 days from Feb 13 1850 and you come up with Sep 16 1762. So now I have her birthdate at "Abt. Sep 16 1762" with the Cemetery gravemarker as a source. That took care of that confusion!
Onward to the Daniel's-
I agree, Elizabeth BECTHEL and Jacob WANN's son Daniel probably did not have a 1st wife by the name of Elizabeth ??. I was given the information by a family member but I have yet to find any documentation on the marriage and no children. I think this was an error in data that got passed on simply because of all the darn Daniels! Daniel and Charlotte are found in the 1850 Fed. Census Fulton Twp., Fountain Co., IN. "
Daniel Wann, age 43, Farmer, Value of Real Estate- $3500, born in PA
Charlotte, age 33, born in IN
William, age 16, Farmer, born in IL, attended school within the year
John, age 13, born in IL, attended school within the year
Elizabeth, age 11, born in IL, attended school within the year
Daniel, age 2, born in IN
Isaac, age 1, born in IN."
I did know Charlotte had another husband Aaron F. RANDOLPH but was unclear whether that marriage was before or after her marriage to Daniel so thank you for clearing that up! Do you know when they married and whether they had any children other than Margaret, when they divorced or if separated by death how and when he died or anything? I had a Margaret Elizabeth Fitz RANDOLPH b. Jan 17 1842 married on Dec 9 1858 to William Wann b. 1834 in Illinois, son of Daniel WANN and Susanna GIVENS.
And, I have a Daniel WANN b. 1848 in Indiana, son of Daniel and Charlotte LUNGER, with an "unknown spouse" having a son Daniel b. Abt 1864 with a spouse Annie THOMPSON (And I bet Thomspn isn't her maiden name either). This couple is responsible for the birth of my Great-Grandfather Daniel WANN b. Sep 20 1883- Parke Co., IN d. Nov 27 1964- Frankfort, Clinton Co., IN. My Grt-Grandpa Daniel had 3 wives as well! And some of his wives had previous marriages and children as well as subsequent ones. So it's been a challenge to say the least to link everyone.
If you have anything that can help fill in some of these blanks in between Daniels, I swear I'd be indebted!
Also, there is a "Luzetty" WANN buried at Silver Island, is this Charlotte LUNGER-RANDOLPH-WANN ????
Okay, I think I confused myself enough for one day. Looking forward to hearing from you again and believe it or not, through the confusion, I am starting to see a viable family tree here! Thank you,
Joni Fortier

Joni,
I descend from Elizabeth Bechtel's daughter, Chastine Catherine who married Jacob Hain.
I have Elizabeth born approx. Oct 1762 from the death info on the tombstone. Also, I find her in the 1850 census living with her son Daniel, which lists her as age 87. This is the same year as her death. So with a year or so discrepancy of the 86/87 it puts her born around 1762-1764.
I have her son Daniel md. to Susanah Givens, Charlotte Lunger, & Margaret Lunger. I do not believe there was a fourth marriage. Charlotte Lunger & Daniel were md. 29 Jun 1847 in Fountain, IN (Charlotte was formerly married to Aaron Randolph).
I believe the marriage you have for Daniel's son, Daniel, who was born in 1848, is Daniel Sr.'s third mariage to Margaret Lunger, who was previously married to Jacob Carman.
Are we confused yet? Margaret Lunger Carman's daughter Melissa Carman, married James Wann (Melissa's stepbrother), the son of Daniel and his first wife, Susanah Givens.
And to mix it up even more...William Henry Wann, (Daniel & Susanah Given's son), married Margaret Randolph (William's stepsister), daughter of Aaron Randolph & Charlotte Lunger Randolph, Daniel's 2nd wife.
Let me know if I can be of more help.

Sharon,
Wow! A living member of my WANN branch that's active in Genealogy? I don't believe it! Well... I knew I had some family in Frankfort, Clinton County, Indiana who are one generation above me and they are my mother's cousins- Grt-Grt-Grandchildren of Daniel Wann b. 1806, (son of Jacob WANN and Elizabeth BECHTEL) and some of them I have been in contact with, fairly recently. There are two I just sent lengthy letters to along with photos of me and my mother, hoping to connect with them and gather some info.
It's been very slow-going gathering info, mainly because my mother left the Clinton County area in 1963 when my grandmother, (Eva Lucille Wann-Denton) died and never really went back. Mom was only 16 then and lost touch with most family members and now I am trying desperately to gather them up again. Many have passed on. And what I have found the most difficult is the fact that there are 12 separate Daniel WANNs in the family tree, and several generations in a row named Daniel, most not well documented.
If there is any way you can forward this on to this person you speak of, it may help him to know where I am in the family tree. And of course, my contact info- my address anyhow (I would love to give a phone number but I am in Okinawa, Japan so I doubt there will be many phone calls).
Marriage of Jacob Johannes WANN and Elizabeth BECHTEL:
1. Daniel WANN b. 1806 d. Sep 23 1865- Fountain County, IN, buried at Silver Island, married after 1844, (his 3rd wife) Charlotte LUNGER b. Mar 2 1817 d. Aug 10 1862, buried at Silver Island. Charlotte's parents were Issac LUNGER and Mercy Anne PARKE.
2. Daniel WANN b. 1848 d.1895- Parke Co., IN, married Margaret CARMAN?? Aug 16 1863-Vermillion Co., IN (This marriage I am not positive of but the date fits. I found it in the archives for Indiana Marriages 1850-1900)
3. Daniel WANN b. Abt 1864 married Annie THOMPSON Abt 1882.
4. Daniel WANN b. Sep 20 1883- Parke Co., IN d. Nov 27 1964- Frankfort, Clinton Co., IN, buried at Greenlawn Cem., married Aug 2 1915 (2nd wife) Celia Jane Holden b. Feb 11 1889, daughter of Noah Richard HOLDEN and Mary Ann GRIFFITH.
5. Eva Lucille WANN b. Jul 21 1925- Parke Co., IN d. Nov 15 1963- Frankfort, Clinton Co., IN, buried Nov 17 1963 at Greenlawn Cem., married about 1945, John Marion DENTON b. Oct 30 1922- IN d. Jan 16 1996- Fairfield, CA, son of Earl DENTON and Leora Francis HOWE.
6. Janna Jeanne DENTON b. 1947-Frankfrot, IN - Living, married in 1969 to Joseph M. CAPUANO, son of Guiseppe CAPUANO and Anna BARBERA b. 1946 in California- Living.

cemetery records say that elizabeth died on feb. 13, 1850 at the age of 87 years 4months. in the book HISTORY OF FOUNTAIN COUNTY 1881, it has the life story of daniel wann.
DANIEL WANN WAS BORN NEAR READING, PENNSYLVANIA, IN 1806, AND WAS A SON OF JACOB AND ELIZABETH WANN. HIS FATHER OWNED AND SUPERINTENDED A FERRY AND HOTEL ON THE SUSQUEHANNA RIVER, NEAR READING. HE MOVED TO PICKAWAY COUNTY, OHIO, WHERE HE DIED. HIS WIFE DIED IN INDIANA, AT DANIEL'S HOME, IN 1850, AGED EIGHTY-SIX.
it goes into more detail in daniel's life with his wives and children. i guess doing a little arithmatic, elizabeth was born in 1763 or 1764.

I am looking for any information on this family.
Everything I find shows Elizabeth BECHTEL, daughter of Jacob BECHTEL and Maria Elizabeth UNKNOWN, being born in 1755. Yet I can find nothing about marriage or children until she marries Jacob Johannes WANN Dec. 27, 1792 in Exeter, Berks Co., Pennsylvania. This seems strange, Elizabeth would be 37 years old already, and Jacob Johannes WANN was born in 1771 and would only be 21 years old.
Elizabeth BECHTEL (b. 1755 d. 1850 in Verm. Co., IN) and Jacob Johannes WANN (b. 1771 d. 1838 in Ohio) went on to have at least 10 children:
Susanna B. WANN b: 11 JUL 1793 in Exeter Twp,Berks County,PA
Samuel WANN b: 13 APR 1795 in Berks County,PA
Wilhelm William WANN b: 24 JUN 1796 in Exeter Twp,Berks County,PA (Married Mary Maria SHANK)
Johannes W. WANN b: 28 JUL 1798 in Berks Co.,PA. (Married Susannah LEIST)
Jacob WANN b: 28 JUN 1800 in Berks Co.,PA. (Married Isobelle FLEMING and Sarah BAKER)
Elizabeth WANN b: 4 SEP 1802 in Exeter Twp,Berks County,PA (Married Peter LEIST)
Eleanor WANN b: 26 DEC 1803 in Berks Co.,PA. (Married Andrew FULTZ, Jr.)
Daniel WANN b: 7 MAR 1807 in Berks County PA (Married Elizabeth ?, Susanna GIVENS, Margaret LUNGER and Charlotte LUNGER)
David WANN b: 27 MAR 1808 (Married Nancy CROSS)
Chestina Catherine WANN b: 15 FEB 1810 in Berks Co.,PA (Married Jacob HAIN)
By the time Elizabeth BECHTEL had her last child in 1810, she would have been 55 years old. Something just doesn't sit right for me about this. Elizabeth's husband was born in 1771, so perhaps Elizabeth was born in 1775 instead of 1755?
Anyone know? Does her tombstone at Silver Island give some further info?
Joni
