I don't have much on John, but I have a whole story about Edward:
John Trunk is Edward's father: in the 1880 census for New Albany John is listed as a
grocer. Living with him are Catharine, a son Henry (listed as a druggist), August (listed
as a machinist), and Eddie (listed as a paper hanger).
Apparently the census taker messed up who did what because it was actually Eddie that was
a druggist, and I assume Henry was a paper hanger.
John and Catherine also had another son, George, who was also a druggist. George at some
point moved to Denver, CO. By 1893 Edward had moved to Denver and George and Edward
opened Trunk Bros. Drug Company in 1897. The drug store was very successful and they had
several shops in Denver.
Edward first married Simonette Kilmartin (born in Ohio), who died in 1894 at the age of
32. My ggrandfather was their son, Fletcher. After Simonette's death, he married a
woman named Beatrice and they had a daughter, Katharine (born in 1901).
There is a lot of information about Edward in the Denver library in the local history
section...pictures of the main drug store, even city directories listing home addresses
and such. Most of the original houses are still standing, although the later ones were
quite large and have since been turned into multi-unit apartment buildings.
Let me know if you find out anything further about John. I would be very interested in
going further back in the Trunk family!
