Message Board Post:
My grandmother, one of her sisters, and two cousins, who had not seen each other for 40
years all state the following traditions about their grandfather Charles, b ca 1836.
* Lived in/near Wheeling WV. Sons George and Albert born Floyd co., IN, 1862, 1867. He
was a miner.
* Charles m'd Eliz Walker 1862 New Albany, Floyd, IN.
* Born in Sachx Godha and was a stowaway on a ship [possible a cattle ship] coming to US
when he was a young man, possibly just before him becoming a priest/minister.
* There were others in the family, a brother Albert and sister, Anna. Also, my
grandmother said Charles had brothers Ernest and Amiel [Emil?].
*Moved to Northern Missouri between 1867-1869.
* My grandmothers father, Albert Ritter started the Ritter Clay Stripping Company in 1887
near Deepwater MO, and sold in 1917.
Since then I have found
# Several of "these" Ritters emigrated from Sachx Godha, Saxony in 1853.
# Charles served in Civil War in an Indiana unit 1864-1865.
# Charles Ritter family in 1870 Dekalb co, MO. 1880 Daviess co., MO.
# Elizabeth died in 5/13/1883, buried in Pattonsburg MO.
# Aunt Anna came to take care of Charles younger children for a year.
# Sometime after 1883 they moved to Coffeyville, KS, then to Clinton/Deepwater MO area.
# They were in Christian co., MO at some time.
# Two children and Elizabeth buried in Pattonsburg MO.
# I found an Albert, Anna, Ernestine, and Teresa [all siblings] in Wetzel co., WV.
in 1880 Ernestine was divorced, in 1900 unmarried
in 1910 Anna was widowed
1870-80-1900-10 Albert was unmarried
I found no mge records for these in Wetzel VA/WV.
Ernestine's death record 1917, born 1833. no parents data
An Alice died 2/1/1909.
A William Riter died 9/30/1927.
Alberts death certificate showed father-Andrew born Saxony, mother-Mary Jimmerly born
Saxony
What may help.
% I would like to find Charles and siblings in 1860 census, prior to VA, near Wheeling WV
or in Floyd or Clark co., IN.
% I would like an obituary for Charles who died 1890-91 in or near Deepwater, MO. Buried
in Pattonsburg, MO, which is quite a distance from Deepwater, to be transporting a body
especially in 1890s.
% An obit for Elizabeth 1883, or the baby Rosa who died two months later.
% An obit for Charles Jr. who died in 9/20/1878 by a building falling on him.
% Find the marriage data on Teresa, Anna, and Ernestine; especially where.
% Teresa shows in census emigrating in 1840, not 1853. A check in the county she was
naturalized would answer that.
I will share all data I have
Thanks
