How would you begin to look for a female who came to America after she was married and
you don't know the mans name? She, without mentioning her name, is mentioned in her
brothers obit as still alive in Floyd Co Indiana. Also in my gr uncles obit as his
sister, still alive in 1916 in Floyd Co Indiana. Her maiden name was Hofmeister. It has
been seen as Hoffmeister and Hoffmaster.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
June
Hi June,
Do you have access to Ancestry.com? I would do a census search in the 1910 and 1920
census using her first name, approximate birthdate, and country of birth.
If you don't have Ancestry, let me know the details and I'll see if I can find her
for you.

June,
Does your local library give you at home access to Heritage Quest? You
must check it out and see. I found a Peter Hoffmeister and his wife, Christina,
listed in 1900 Clark Co Census. They are listed as father-in-law and
mother-in-law to a Jacob Graf, whose wife was Louisa. Peter was 82 years old
and Christina was 80; married 53 years and 6 or 9 children at living at time
census was taken. They were both born in Germany, immigration year given for
Peter was 1840 and 1850 for Christina; Peter is naturalized at time of census
taking.Louisa was born in Indiana.
From this info, I would do this. See if can find an immigration record for
Peter and see who he came over with to the US.
