Thanks. I was mistaken when I said "Aunt Lou" was Julia;she was Louisa and I
believe that she never married. She came to live with Sarah at least after Sarah's
husband William died in 1918. I have most of the info on their descendents. I also have
pictures and letters. Sarah was a prolific letter writer. I have visited the graves of her
parents and it is interesting that they kept the "s" in their surname although
Sarah did not. Her son Jefferson Venable Houpt had no "s" but the s is there on
her father's grave stone. Also, I have a copy of the obituary of Sarah's brother
Thomas's wife who was also named Sarah. Thomas kept the s as well. I am interested in
the letter from Sarah that you quoted. Where did that come from and who has it now? At
some point, with more time, I will forward to you all the descendents of William Houpt and
Sarah Venable. My grandfather was William Richard Houpt, Sarah's second son and my
father was William Houpt as well. He grew up in Danville IL but!
had many visits down to New Albany as a child. I have visited several times the home in
New Albany where William and Sarah lived; it is a lovely restored Victorian home. My
uncle, Richard Venable Houpt used to have a letter from Martin Venable Brackett(?)
describing her childhood memories of Sarah and William's house but it has been lost.
