FLOYD KNOB.
Last Saturday the 26, a gentle tap at my chamber door, and an invitation to
come in, when there stood in the threshold of the door, my old friend uncle
James Williams, of Greenville, the man who employed me to teach my first
school 41 years ago. We spent an hour talking over times. Mr. Williams
looks well for a man 86 years old.
Last Friday the 25 of July, your correspondent passed his 65th mile post.
Services Sunday and at night at the Christian church by Elder Boone, of
Lexington.
Rev. Clay Lee, of Floyd Knobs is reported no better.
Miss Alpha Schreiber is down from Bedford visiting friends and relatives.
Last Saturday evening three or four drunken young humans running a
beautiful young horse and whipping him in the direction of Galena.
Doubtless someone had hired him to the. There isn't an officer of the law
between New Albany and Greenville to attend to these young apes of humanity.
Chiggers are reported uncommonly thick in the country. Rub a little alcohol
on the affected parts and it does the work for these pets [pests].
GALENA.
Mrs. Flora Harmon, of Oklahoma, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Laura Ashby.
Mrs. Lawrence Murphy and daughter Margarite, are visiting friends and
relatives in New Albany.
Mrs. Geo. W. Frantz, Jr., of Louisville, Ky., will arrive Wednesday to
visit her sister, Mrs. Louisa Wilson and Niece, Mrs. Jno. Morton.
Miss Emma O. Frantz, of Louisville is visiting her cousin, Lula May
Slenbecker.
Mr. Phil Erwine/Eswine, of Louisville, will arrive August 2nd, to spend
three weeks in Galena.
Misses Lucille Barr and Mary Louise Hull are visiting their grand-mother,
Mrs. Bud Harmon.
Mrs. Osie Williams and niece spent several days with Mrs. Williams' son,
Jessee Williams.
Mrs. Engleman, of New Albany has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Joe
Reisert.
Messrs Bert Williams, Rabbit Thomas, Lawrence Murphy and Frank Fife, west
on a fishing trip down the creek. Let's hope they have a good time.
Miss Irma Davis, of Cincinnati, who has been visiting Mrs. Wesley Pritchet
has returned to her home.
Mrs. Hall, of New Albany, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Ben Harmon.
Mr. David Seaman celebrated his sixty-second birthday with a large party.

Mr. George Utz and wife, Lawrence Slaughterback and wife, Mr. Lafe
Burkhardt and wife, Andy Utz and family , all took dinner at Mrs. Julia
Sterns, Sunday at Georgetown. Mrs. *Stens* has been in poor health for
quite a long time.
Mrs. George Hottell had a picnic for her Sunday School class at home grove
near the house Saturday. They all enjoyed themselves fine.
Mrs. Anna White and family were visiting her son, Bernard White Sunday.
The drouth was broken by a good rain here last Thursday.
Threshing will be finished this week. Very few crops made an average yield.
Mr. Noble Johnson bought a fine young horse at the auction sale at Corydon
Junction last week.
Miss Florence Lang and sister Edith, of New Albany are visiting Miss Fannie
Lee Byrne this week.
Mr. Chas Dellinger and son Major, were visiting relatives in New
Albany Sunday.

Jacob L. Hunt, of Lafayette township, one of the well known school teachers
of that township, is contemplating making the race for County Clerk on the
democratic ticket at the next primary election.

Recent Harrison County deaths were:
Christopher Buechler died at the home of his son, Paul Buechler, with whom
he has made his home for ten years since his wife died. He was born in
Godbingen [Gottingen?], in Kandau, Germany, Oct. 2nd, 1824, being 88 years,
9 months old. In Oct. 1868 at the age of 44 years he sailed for
America--landing at New Orleans on Christmas day. He then came to Harrison
county, where he had since made his home. He was the father of eleven
children two having died in infancy. His son Christopher, Jr., died in May
1885. He leaves three sons and five daughters to mourn their loss.
Charles Waltz, forty years of age, a resident of Frenchtown, Harrison
county, was killed while dragging logs on the farm of Daniel Gettlefinger,
in Jackson township, that county, Wednesday. He was dragging a log along a
hill side with a team, walking along the lower side of it when it rolled
down the hill, knocking him down and passing over his body.
