Thanks for the info Becky ! I am the grandson of Edward Jr. and Helena Angela Weitz. By
their son Raymond G. Harris ( Sr.) and Gusta V. Bailey. I have been tracking the family
for several years and have struggled from time to time with the lack of , (or conflicting)
info in the general public records.
My mom and dad divorced when I was 6. And aside from occasional contact with my Dad... My
contact with the rest of the Harris clan had been limited over the years. As they were
mostly all in Louisville... And I was raised over in Indiana.
I came into contact with our cousin Lilly Williams a few years ago via the message
boards... And she had furnished me with a lot of info on the family in recent years .
But like me had been struggling to find out much about the family prior to the
1920's.
The info about the Harris / Harrison name change is great ! It explains why I have come
across it spelled both ways over the years. Also the clue to the identity of Edward
Sr.'s father being named Thomas is awesome. I have looked for years for his death
record. But never had any luck.
I agree with you about Mary E's mother being named Honora.
(I have also seen the same census record stating it was Hannah).
But I definitely think you are correct in her name actually being Honora.
There is a daughter Nora listed with them on the 1900 Louisville census. Which also
supports that... as she most likely was named after her mother.
I would imagine that the difference in the spelling Annora and Honora is most likely that
( from my very limited understanding of Gaelic) the H would have probably been
"silent". And her name have been pronounced Annora. So most likely whoever was
taking the info probably just spelled it phonetically.
Great stuff !! Thank you so much !! If you need any info please let me know.
Ray
