History Comes Alive
“An Evening With Obadiah Childs and Sophia, His Sister”
Reenactors: Alice Glover and Dave Elliott
Alice and Dave enjoy doing reenactments of some of the early pioneers
of New Albany.
Presently they are working with the Bicentennial Committee trying to
make history come alive.
Dave is a descendant of Obadiah Childs.
The two will portray siblings Obadiah Childs and Sophia (Childs) Ashton,
two early Floyd County settlers, as they recall their younger years.
Time period: about 1850-1855.
Their clothing, jewelry, etc. is authentic for that time period
(either antique or careful
reproductions). They will stay in "first person" before, during and
after the presentation.
The meeting will be held in the Strassweg Auditorium of the
New Albany-Floyd County Library,
180 W. Spring St., New Albany, Indiana.
