Hello Jerry,
I think I may have found something for you, but you will have to verify through
documentation.
First, I found a marriage license for Eugene Collins to Clara Francis Gardner on May 10,
1869, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana. The marriage took place the next day on May 11,
1869. It may be that your great-grandfather's middle name was Robert, but he gave his
christened name as Eugene for the marriage license.
The 1870 Federal Census for New Albany, Floyd Co., Indiana, page 26, lists Robert Collins
(born Indiana and age 23) as head of household, Clara (born Ohio and age 21) keeping
house, and Mary A. (born Indiana that year in the month of February and age 4 months).
Robert Collins' profession is listed as laborer.
There are graves listed for Eugene and Clara F. Collins on the Findagrave website for
Fairview Cemetery, New Albany, Indiana (location plot: Plat 10 Range 8 Lot 7, and Plat 10
Range 6 Lot 57). His dates are listed as 1846-1890. Her dates are listed as 1850-1886.
Clara is also listed as having been born in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, on this
website. I cannot verify that these graves are the same Eugene and Clara F. Collins from
the marriage license, but the dates fit with the other information already provided.
Hope this helps you in some small way.
Melissa
