Jacob SCHWARTZ committed suicide on Tuesday afternoon of last week,
by cutting his throat at his home, on Spring street, between Bank and
Third. Mr. SCHWARTZ had been ill for several days of la grippe and his
mind seemed to be affeccted by the malady. His mental condition was
noticed by his family, but they had no idea he contemplated suicide.
Schwartz went into an upstairsbd-room, and a moment later his wife heard
him fall. She hurried in the room and found him on the floor with a
terrible gash in his throat. He was gasping for breath and died in a
few minutes. His face, hands, and clothing were smeared with blood, and
a large pool near a mirror indicated he had slashed his neck. Schwartz
was 54 years old and leaves a wife and two daughters, Mrs. Nannie
SANDERS and Miss Maggie SCHWARTZ. He was engaged in the transfer
business for seeral years, but of late had been employed as a merchant
policeman. He was a member of Centenary M. E. Church.
