Thank you for the information on Fort Reed in PA.
There was also a Fort Reed in Kentucky, but alas, neither are the one I was searching
for.
Joseph Reed was born in Fayette County, PA, Dec 1792, and James, b.1802 and David,
b.1804,in Clark County, Indiana.
This was the frontier of Indiana Territory, with several conflicts with some of the
indian tribes. In 1805, Tecumseh and his brother,"The Prophet" initiated an
indian uprising because of settlements on their lands. The massacre at Pigeon Roost,
Battle of Tippecanoe, and the war of 1812 all added to the history of Indiana.
Some of the first settlers in Indiana built their houses into small blockhouses, and I
tend to think this may have been the case with Wllliam Reed's family.
There is an old cemetery on the farm in Union Twsp, Clark County, Indiana, called the
"Weir Cemetery". It is thought that in the back of it in some unmarked graves
may be indian burials.
William Reed died in 1814, and his wife, Sarah raised the children on the farm until she
sold it to her son, Joseph in 1831, when she migrated to Illinois with several of her
children.
Thank you for your post
Isaac
