Surname: Davis, Griffe, Jupin
-------------------------
Looking for any information on Adeline (Addie) Griffe, daughter of Robert
Griffe and Mary Shelton. Addie was born November 14, 1874 and died May
29, 1915. Best I can tell is she was born and died in Meade County. She
is supposedly buried at Bethel Methodist Church, Weldon, Meade County,
Kentucky.
Heres is what I have so far
.Allen G. Jupin married Adeline M. (Griffe)
Davis in 1913 in Floyd County, Indiana and had a daughter, Dora Jupin.
My grandmother says Dora and my great grandfather were siblings. G-Grandfather
was Roy Eldon (or Elden) Davis, so its VERY likely they were half-siblings
(not full blooded siblings) with a common mother. Since Addie already had
the name Davis by 1913 in Floyd County, and Roy Elden Davis was born in
1896, she was most likely married to an unknown Davis in the mid 1890s
somewhere in the Kentuckiana area. And since she was born, married, and
died in that general area, Im assuming her unknown husband Davis was from
around there and/or died and/or married her there.
What Im looking for is any details on this unknown Davis to whom his name
was given to Adeline Griffe during marriage, where they were married, any
other children besides Roy, etc. It may be that Floyd County holds the
information because since Allen Jupin married her there, its a good possibility
she was living there before that. No one in my family can even begin to
speculate who this man may have been.
On a similar but perhaps separate note, there were stories Roy (or perhaps
his father) was a Cherokee Indian. Thats unsubstantiated at this point.
Im wondering if maybe it was Addie or someone in her family that was perhaps
Indian because I once read somewhere that Griffe actually meant a
half-indian/half-caucasian
person. Dont know if the stories got mixed in the generations or if there
is no relevance at all, but just thought Id mention it.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to
hearing back.
