Thomas S. Taylor was born in New Jersey in 1813. His wife, Rebecca was probably born about
1820, in Cuba, orphaned and raised by relatives in America (possibly by Lewis or Louis
Chevier). They married at Madison, IN, in 1843, where Thomas had established a thriving
blacksmith's business, employing three men besides himself. In 1850 the family was
counted in Warren County, Ohio, but it may have only been a temporary relocation to deal
with the death of his mother.
They lived in Madison in 1860, and probably remained there until at least 1864. By 1868
they had relocated, probably to New Albany. Their daughter reports going there after she
finished college in Indianapolis.
Thomas and Rebecca had three children:
Louisa Jane (b. 1844) married Cleveland Rodgers in 1868.
Martha Ann (b. 1846) married a man named Kraushaar.
Lewis Chevier Taylor (b. abt. 1849) was a railroad man "between New Albany and
California," according to Mattie Kraushaar's family notes.
I am seeking information on the deaths and burials of Thomas S. Taylor, who died in
November, 1878, and Rebecca Taylor, who died February 10, 1879.
