Surname: RICHARD, RICHARDS, HALLER, MITCHELL
-------------------------
Frances Aurelia Richard(s)Haller was the widow of Christian Charles Haller
(d1896). He was a grocer and was killed while delivering groceries in Floyd
Knobs when the horse pulling the wagon was spooked - at least that is the
family story. By 1910 Frances was running a boarding house at 411 Pearl
St. in New Albany. We have a picture of her, probably taken in middle age,
which is labeled Frances Aurelia Richard (without the "s"), probably by
her daughter or grandson. There are lots of Richard and Richards families
in the censuses, so I have to check each.
I am trying to find out who her parents were. She alternately says in censuses
that they were born in France or Germany, but she was born in Indiana in
1854. However, so far I can't find her in the 1860 census. In the 1870
census I can find a Frances Richards, age 16, working as a domestic servant
in a home in New Albany for a family in which the husband and wife were
born in France, but that doesn't help me with her actual family. I do not
know who her siblings were at this point either.
Frances' daughter Barbara Haller married my husband's grandfather, Cledus
Mitchell, in Floyd County in 1911. However, they lived most of their lives
in Monroe County and died there.
Hoping to find another genealogist who follows the Haller or Richard(s)
lines.
