Surname: Heiman, Hindman, Herman, Hekman, Heinman

I am looking for info on my g-g-g grandmother Sophia Heiman.
The story goes like this:
Sophia was born on "the boat" Feb. 1851 when her parents were immigrating
to America from Germany. Her mother died giving birth and was buried at
sea. Her father was a sailor. It is said that he couldn't take care of
Sophia while sailing, so he gave her to a family in New Albany, IN to raise
her. Her father would come and go often to visit.
One day he never returned and was presumed dead. No one knows when or how,
but Sophia eventually migrated to Gibson County, IN where she married #1
Christopher McCleary and then #2 William Shy (my line).
I am looking for info on Sophia. The names of her parents? the name of
the family that raised her? The name of the boat she was born on? Is Heiman
her maiden name? Is it the name of the family that raised her?
Does any of this sound familar? Any of it?
I have searched the 1860 Floyd Co. census and found nothing.
( She was b. 1851, She married #1 in 1873)
Please note that I have found her name on several documents however the
spelling is different each time ( Heiman, Hindman, Hekman, Herman).
I would greatly appreciate any help, no matter how small it may seem. Thanks
for your time.
Sheila H.
