NADL 8 Aug 1863 p2 c4: Died, on Friday evening, August 7th, Edwin Gordon, son of Dr. John
and Eliza Gordon, aged 24 years. In the prime of life, and in the midst of a career of
usefulness, Death has called away our young friend. He was possessed of all the generous
and nobler impulses of our nature, and his kindness of heart had endeared him to all who
knew him. For several years Mr. Gordon was afflicted with disease of the heart, and his
general health was quite feeble. When Morgan in vaded Indiana, and her patriotic sons were
called upon to drive the enemy froom our borders, Mr. Godon, as a member of the Purdue
Rifles, at Lafayette, where he was living, responded to the call, and with his company
followd in the pursuit to Buffington Island, and participated in the engagment which
resulted in the capture of most of the invaders. It was during this campaingnj that his
fatal illness was brought upon him, and he is another added to the long list of martyrs in
his country's cause. His funeral will take place from the First Presbyterian Church at
4 o'clock tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon.
