Hello, Friends --
I am researching the following families, listed below, in Floyd Co. They
lived in New Albany.
Would anyone have additional information or access to cemetery books so I
might determine where these SCHAEFERS are buried? Also I have references to
two New Albany newspaper articles which I am hoping to obtain. Can anyone
provide an address where I might write to obtain copies from the newspaper?
The two newspaper articles are:
1) Mrs. Joseph SHAFFER, death of, at St. Joseph. In _New Albany Ledger,_ 05
May 1888, p. 4, col. 2.
2) Marriage notice of Michael SCHAEFER to Elizabeth A. BOARD. In _New Albany
Ledger,_ 05 July 1889, p. 5, col. 4.
Here's what I know about these families.
Joseph SCHAEFER b. c. 1826 in Bavaria, m. c. 1857 (in NY?) to
Charlotte/Sophia (maiden name unknown) b. c. 1827 in Prussia. Joseph was a
basket maker. They resided in New Albany in the 1860-1880 censuses. Their
known children from these censuses are:
1) Henry b. c. 1857 NY
2) Joseph b. c. April/May 1860 IN (probably New Albany.
3) Mary b. c. 1863 IN (probably New Albany).
4) Sophia b. c. 1864 IN (probably New Albany)
5) Michael Joseph (see below)
6) Frank b. c. 1867 IN (probably New Albany)
7) Annie b. c. 1871 IN (probably New Albany)
Michael Joseph SCHAEFER b. Oct 1866 IN (probably New Albany); d. after 1923;
m. 02 July 1889 Floyd Co., IN to Elizabeth Ann BOARD b. July 1868
Brandenburg, KY. The Schaefers were living at 1918 E. Spring, New Albany at
least in 1923 and probably earlier. Michael J. was a motorman (for the
railroad?)
Some children of Michael J. and Elizabeth SCHAEFER (there may be more):
1) Bertha b. Mar 1890 IN (probably New Albany)
2) Rosa b. Jan 1892 IN (probably New Albany)
3) Michael Peter b. 11 July 1894 New Albany, IN; d. Jan 1967 in
Indianapolis, IN; m. 11 July 1923 in Indianapolis to Kathleen Margaret
MAURER b. 29 Jan 1899 in Indianapolis; d. Sept 1963 in Beech Grove, Marion
Co., IN
As you can see, I don't have death dates or cemetery information for Joseph
and Charlotte/Sophia SCHAEFER, nor for Michael Joseph and Elizabeth
SCHAEFER.
I'd be so grateful for any clues or leads anyone has!
Much obliged and many thanks,
