If you like you can order his Civil War Pension Records.
That has a wealth of information in them. Wife's name, childrens' names, dates of
birth, when and where married, and I can't think of all the other information it
gives.
I've ordered a lot of them. Oh, it also shows when he died and what he died from.
They only charge you if they are able to find the correct records. You have to order the
pension/bounty forms from the National Archives in Wash. DC. You can find it on the
internet. You need to have his Civil War info to fill out the forms. I'm not sure how
far you are from the National Cemetery. You might want to check that out.
You can also write to the Soldiers' home and get a copy of his file there. I've
also done that before. Good luck. If I can help further let me know. I'm in VA but I
have some research CD's from IN since my great-grandparents lived there.
