I have a James Perkins buried at Fairview:
Cemetery book says as follows:
PERKINS James: 8685; born England; 48; 23 Feb 1885; P10 R7 L8
***23 Feb 1885 Joseph Perkins, employee of DePauw Glass Works, while
blowing glass, fell into furnace pit.
Also buried in this grave:
SMITH, Louise: 17703; 66 yrs; buried 7 Feb 1921; P10 R7 L8 single grave,
buried with James PERKINS; Org. heart disease; F T Tyler; Lottich Bros.
I have no idea yet who this Louise could be. As far as my records go I have
notation that James Perkins was married to one Emily Richardson.
I found one Louise (Louisa) Smith in Floyd - NA 1920 census, she is 65,
married to
Benjamin (60) who also lives there, Mary West (74, Wd) is head of household.
Louisa is however Black. Were Black burials allowed in Fairview in 1921?
(sorry if that is
a stupid question).
The very helpful people at the cemetery told me it is quite possible they
have nothing to do with one
another and she was just placed on top of a random person. That just seems
weird to me.
Ideas?
