I am searching for information on Eliza Ann (WHITLOCK) HOPPER, my g-g-gmother, who died in Floyd Co. (Greenville) in 1854. Specifically, I am trying to verify her parents' names. Were county death records being kept that early and, if so, would they have included parents' names?
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I am fairly certain that Eliza Ann was the older sister of William Nelson WHITLOCK (1826 to abt 1893) whose married Mary A. KERSNER, and who lived in Lafayette Township. Eliza Ann WHITLOCK married Hiram HOPPER in Floyd Co. on July 17, 1835. About two weeks later, on July 29, 1835 one William WHITLOCK married Julia Ann MONAGHAN (his second wife). This William was definitely the father of William Nelson WHITLOCK mentioned above, but I cannot determine the name of William WHITLOCK Sr.'s first wife, who would have been the mother of William Nelson WHITLOCK and, most likely, Eliza Ann as well. William, Sr. and his first wife were both born in VA abt. 1796, apparently married there, and show up in the 1820 census in Boone Co., KY, where Eliza Ann and William Nelson were both born. By 1830 the family was in Floyd Co. (Greenville), and shortly thereafter William Sr's first wife died. He then married Julia Ann MONAGHAN, and they both died abt. 1872 in Lafayet!

I don't know if I can help very much but it seems we're searching the same family line. I am searching Benjamin Adams of Harrison County, Indiana abt 1820 then (we think) he moved to Floyd County, IN abt 1830.
His children may be: Benjamin Jr., John (also born in KY) abt.1812 married to Elizabeth (see 1850 cenus) and Thomas but it's possibility the our family line James Adams who was also born in Kentucky 1814 may also be a son.
In 1840 census shows two more sons at home with Benjamin Adams. John & Benjamin Jr.are out of the home and on their own and right now we are searching this line out to see if it's a possiblity.Do you have a James on any of your information? Thank you for your help.

Hi!
I'm descended from an Adams family that has roots in Nelson County and then Harrison County, IN. My earliest well documented Adams ancestor is James Adams, born Nelson County, 1814. We believe now that James's father was Benjamin Adams, also born in Nelson KY. We have Benjamin in Harrison as early as 1817, going by deeds records. He also is listed in the 1820 Harrison, IN census. In 1830, he is not listed in Harrison. We suspect now that he was alive in Floyd County in 1830. He can be found in the 1830 Floyd County census.
Does anyone out there know anything about this Benjamin Adams? We also suspect that he died during the 1830s. Does anyone out there know about the condition of probate records back during the 1830s? Any help would be appreciated!
