James Peter McGuire was born in New Albany, Indiana in 1853,
according to his marriage license. That means his parents, Patrick
(or James) and Mary McGuire should have been listed in the city
directory for that year or thereabout. Can someone pease do a
look-up for me? These Irish people are hard to trace. Thanks.

Here is a good site for finding the surname, MORRIS, both in Wales and in
America. States are named in which the Welsh and the surname MORRIS, tended
to settle in America. Information on migrations, including the surname
MORRIS, of the Welsh toward the west, is included. The Index of Data Wales
has numerous links, and images. All in all, this is a very interesting
site.

New Albany Tribune 18 Mar 1930 p1:
Three Killed in Wreck of Freight Train-Accident Occurs At Kentucky Town as Boiler Blows Up
-Cars Are Set On Fire-
Evansville Ind. March 1_. Three men were killed and at least one other man was seriously injured early today when a freight train o_ the Henderson division of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad was wrecked at Kinney Station, Tenn., fifteen miles south of Guth__, Kentucky. The cause of the wreck was a boiler explosion o_ the engine that threw the freight train from the rails and set fire to the cars. The known dead are Henry Russell, fireman, Evansville; Aaron M___, Brakeman, Evansville; and an unidentified man believed to have been stealing a ride. Joseph Crandall, engineer, E_____ ville, was seriously injured. There were several tank cars of gasoline in the train and at least one of them near the engine blew up, scattering wreckage for some distance around the right of way. Superintendent J. H. Fish, in charge of the Louisville & Nashville district here, with other officials of the company, left shortly after daylight with a wrecking train to clear the tracks. Wrecking cr!
ews also were sent from Nashville and Russellville, Ky. Mr. Fish confirmed the list of dead and gave out details of the explosion. There was nothing left of the train, it was announced at the offices here, except charred piles of twisted steel. The series of explosions and the fire that followed destroyed thirty-one freight cars. The engine was an oil burner. Passenger trains were detoured from Guthrie to Bowling Green and on to Nashville.
Hi, Everyone!
Looking for info on obtaining a death certificate from the early 1970s (where
to obtain and cost).
Also, would this death be listed in the death index in the Indiana Room at
the Floyd Co, Library?
I know the exact date of death, I'm just hoping to find parents.
Hope this isn't confusing :)
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Carla

Hello Angela.
I'd appreciate your help with Sarah C. Minton (md John Tackett). I hope this won't be confusing! <G>
I had Sarah in my files as a daughter of my Thomas Mintons' first marriage to Matilda Moore, based on the 1860 CENSUS record for KY, Grayson, Grayson Springs, p. 360, dwelling 84, family 84 which lists:
Thomas Minton, 42, Master carpenter, b. KY; Matilda Minton, 32, Housewifery, b. KY; Mary E., 14, b. IN; Marilda R., 13, b. IN; Samantha I. [?], 12, b. IN; Sarah C., 8, b. IN; William V., 6, b. IN; Frank W., 2, b. IN with Wm. Montgomery, 32, apprentice Carpenter, b. KY. (As well family data indicated that my GGgrandmother, Mary Stoner, who was Thomas 2nd spouse, was from Clark co, IN.)
Right next door in dwelling 85, family 85 are William Minton, 32, apprentice Carpenter, b. KY; Margaret A. Minton, 33, Housewifery, b. KY; Mary, 14, b. KY; Nancy, 13, b. KY; Matilda, 10, b. KY; Sarah, 8, b. KY and Beverly L.C. Minton, 3, b. KY. So, if not for the middle initial listed for Thomas' daughter, she could also have been d/o William, who was brother of Thomas Minton.
Your records indicate her father as Jonathan Minton, if I understood correctly. Can you please share your source for the line? I'd sure appreciate your help and would like to get this correct.
Thanks!

McCUTCHAN, JEWETT W., 75, of Crystal River, died Saturday (April 1, 2000) at Life Center in Lecanto. Born in New Albany, Ind., he came here 12 years ago from Plainfield, Ind., and was a retired claims manager for Hartford Life Insurance. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, a Protestant and a member of American Legion Post 0329, Indiana. Survivors include his wife, E. Constance; and several nephews and nieces. Brown Funeral Home, Crystal River/Lecanto.
My husband's great uncle was John Worthington, one of a family of children
who were separated early in life when their mother, Jane Osborn Worthington
died. John Worthington said in a letter to his niece Martha Jacobs
Schoolfield that his aunt Mattie lived at Prather, IN, not far from New Albany.
Mattie is Martha Worthington, who was born abt 1874 and married Jason J
Collins in January 1892 in Lawrence Co IN. It wouldn't surprise me if
Jason worked for the rail road. I don't know where Prather is, perhaps not
even in Floyd Co. Does anyone know about this couple?
