Moses Jackson, a former resident of this city, died last night at his home
in Jeffersonville. He was for a number of years employed at The Ohio Falls
Iron Works and moved eight years ago from this city to Jeffersonville where
he had been engaged in the hotel business. Mr. Jackson is 65 years of age
and besides his wife is survived by several step children. He was an uncle
of Moses F. Jackson of this city.

A pioneer of this part of Indiana passed away on Sunday morning. William
Whiteman was born at Charlestown, Clark Co. on the 19th day of March 1806
and at the age of 6 months his parents removed to what is now Floyd Co.
locating near this city and he continued to reside here until his death.
He was at the time of his death the oldest continuous resident of Floyd
Co. His father settled near this city 8 years before New Albany was platted
as a town. The deceased was a man of integrity and in all aspects a good
citizen. His funeral will take place on Tuesday afternoon from his late
residence on Charlestown Rd. opposite the DePauw place.

Mrs. Anna Cooper
Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Cooper, 61 years old, who died Sunday night
at St. Edward's Hospital following an illness of 2 months, will be at 2
o'clock this p.m. at the home of her son, Thomas Sears, 2205 East Market
St., the Rev. C. D. Strother of the Culbertson Ave. Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Cooper was removed to the
hospital Saturday from her home at 225 Galt St.
Besides her son, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Whiteman
of this city. She is also survived by 4 sisters, who are, Mrs. Henry Dietrich
of this city, Mrs. Joseph Kemp and Mrs. William Harvey, both of Louisville,
and Mrs. Anna Jekel of St. Louis.

"Crushed To Death"
Phmeon Sears, an Old Resident. Ran Down by a Southern Train. Terribly Bruised
and Mangled and Many Bones Broken.
Phimeon Sears, aged seventy-five years and one of the old residents of
New Albany, whose home was at East Market and Washington streets, was instantly
killed and terribly mangled by a Southern Railway train at 8:47 o'clock
this Friday morning at Vincennes Street and the crossing of the Belt Railroad
near Stone street. Mr. Sears was standing near the track and the engineer
of the train blew his whistle when Mr. Sears started to cross the track,
but was struck before he got over. Nearly all his bones were broken as
the heavy cars passed over his aged and feeble body.
The dead man was conveyed to the home of his son, Charles T. Sears, 1615
East Market street and Coroner Starr there viewed the body and will hold
his inquest this afternoon or tomorrow.
Phimeon Sears had been a resident of New Albany from his boyhood. For many
years he was a pilot on the boats of the New Albany and Portland Ferry
Company. In the Civil War he served in the Thirteenth Indiana Cavalry,
and was a gallant and fearless soldier. He was known to all the old residents
of the city. After leaving the ferry service Mr. Sears was a flagman on
the Monon and Pennsylvannia.
His surviving children are Charles T. Sears and Thomas Sears of this city,
and William Sears of Kokomo.

"John Whiteman, aged nine years, son of ex-policeman Edward Whiteman, was
drowned Saturday afternoon about 5 o'clock. With his brother he was in
a dilapidated flat paddling through the backwater on the Lindemann place
north of the city cemetery, when the boat upset. His brother, who could
swim, tried to save the lad, but he almost instantly sunk out of sight.
The body was recovered an hour later where it went down."

Oscar Whiteman, son of Mrs. Ella Whiteman, died at 1 o'clock this morning
at his home at 216 Galt St. He was 22 years old and unmarried. Before his
health failed, 5 months ago, he was employed by the New Albany Box & Basket
Co. Mr. Whiteman was a member of the Central Christian Church. The funeral
will be held at the family residence at 2 o'clock Sunday and the burial
will be in the Leyden Cemetery.

New Albany Daily Ledger 14 April 1899
Harry Whiteman died on the 11th inst. at a hospital in Washington City
where he had been under treatment for some time. While a member of Co.
C 159th Indiana at Camp Alger he was attacked with typhoid fever and after
his recovery was so affected by the disease that he was sent to the Government
Hospital for the Insane at Washington, where he died from exhaustion. The
remains will be brought to New Albany for burial. He is the third member
of the family to die within a year.

2-1-1830 Wales. David d. 7-14-1900 and Mary Ann d. 3-9-1899. Came originally
to ?Portsmouth, OH or KY and at some point moved to New Albany, IN. Their
children: Joseph E. Lloyd, David William Lloyd, John L. Lloyd, Benjamin
Lloyd, and Jennie Lloyd (m. G. William Wible). Two known sisters of Mary
Ann Jones were Maggie (m. a Griffith) and Lizzie (m. a Whitney).
Re. David and Mary Ann Lloyd:
When and where did they marry? Who were their parents? Where are they buried?
Who were their siblings? One record states David had 8 siblings... one
remained in Wales and the rest came to the USA.
I descend from David William Lloyd who m. Laura Ann Branch. They moved
around but ended up in NC.
I have photos.
Any info is greatly appreciated.
