LOUISVILLE (KY) ARMY DEPOT. Searching for civilian and/or military
personnel who served there. I served there for about a year in 1961-1962.
I was one of only two enlisted grade E-4 (Spec4) military personnel on the
post. The other military personnel were higher pay grades. If you know
anything about the history of the depot or about any of the people who
worked there, I would certainly appreciate hearing from you. If you know
of someone else who might be able to help me, I would also appreciate
having that information.
Would like to find out if there was ever a post newsletter of any kind
published or if there is any type of organization today made up of
individuals who served there.
The Post Commander was Col. Eli DAMAN. Major Herman H. TYLER was adjutant.
Paul HORNUNG's mother, Loretta HORNUNG, was a civilian, working in the
Finance Section. Mildred CONNELLY (now deceased) worked in the Finance
Section. Other civilians there were George GROSS and Ted WADE. I have
located Ted WADE.

Surname: OTT, HOPPER, SUMMERS, UTZ, BAKER, ROTH
-------------------------
My gr-grandmother Christina (Summers) Hopper, after her 1880 divorce with
William Hopper, married David Mosier in Floyd Co. on 18 March 1883. David
was born in 1824 and was apparently a widower when he married Christina.
David died in Floyd Co. 3 Nov. 1907.
A correspondent of mine has written, asking if I know of a MORRIS cemetery in
Floyd Co., at Greenville. Are any of you familiar with this site?
Unfortunately, my knowledge of Floyd Co. cemeteries is severely limited.
Thanks.

> My reason for writing you is to ask if you have heard of the Morris family
> cemetery in Greenville? My ancestor, Morris MORRIS, was an early pioneer in
> Indiana Territory, Harrison County. He married Rebecca Wilcoxson there in
> 1811. He was one of the first settlers on Richland Creek in Greenville,
> Floyd Co. (formed out of Harrison Co.) At one time, Morris (Maurice) owned
> all of Section 31 of Greenville, Floyd Co. I assume that is where the
> Morris Cemetery is located. I believe a Mrs. Main later purchased the
> Morris property. The Morris men were prominent in politics and business in
> New Albany for many years, with Robert Morris perhaps being the most
> prominent as Postmaster, then mayor, being re-elected several times.
>
> As you travel west on Hwy 150 toward Greenville, just before you get to
> Greenville there is a large white house sitting on a hill on the left side
> of the highway. That is the property which my father told us was the Morris
> homeplace. He took us frequently to traipse through the woods where he had
> do so as a boy. He could identify all the plants and trees. If he ever
> showed us the Morris cemetery, or if it is located on that property, I was
> too young to remember. Unfortunately, by the time my husband and I became
> interested in the study of genealogy, the older family members who had the
> answers to our questions were already gone. Most of the Morrises are buried
> in Greenlawn Cemetery at Greenville. Morris Morris's son, Thomas T. Morris,
> from whom I am descended, is buried there.
>
> In the History Room of the New Albany Public Library there is a reference to
> the private Morris cemetery where someone visited it many years ago in an
> attempt to catalog it. It was in a sad state of repair at that time, which
> it seems to me was in the 1960s. I believe there was only one recognizable
> stone and bits of broken ones. What a sad end to the remembrance of a
> proud pioneer family which is named in the Indiana Society of Pioneers! I
> wonder if there is a a way of locating the cemetery and of discovering who
> was buried there? I would think that Morris Morris, Sr. and his wife,
> Rebecca Wilcoxson are there. The obituary of Morris Morris, Jr. in
> September 1872 sounded as if he were buried there also. I was a little
> confused about that, because I thought I found his wife Amanda Laura Foster
> buried at Fairview in New Albany, and him also. Perhaps he was moved there?
> I have a lot to learn, as you can tell.
