Amy,
I hardly think because yours has the Rootsweb account that gives you more
credibility (more likely because you're linked from the State site)...and if
it does, this is all the more reason to do something about this
situation..Rootsweb should not be so involved with USGenWeb. People should
not be associating one with the other..putting everything at one server
could cause many problems...imagine if Rootsweb were to crash right now how
many sites would be down. How many mailing lists wouldn't be running...we
would lose almost all communication with everyone. Putting all our eggs in
one basket like this can be very dangerous.
I, for one, have decided to move my sites to my personal server. I am also
looking into possible mailing lists on other servers...I have found one that
I will probably use...and guess what? It's free. (and its not one of those
commercial mailing list servers with the big ads at the bottom)
BTW....just for everyones information, as to your Rootsweb space. Did you
all realize that if you, I or anyone were to give up their Co. in USGenWeb,
they can, upon request sent to Brian at Rootsweb, *keep* their space at
Rootsweb?? Meaning, while, for instance, I gave up Crawford Co., INGenWeb
(I'm not) I could keep my url of
http://www.rootsweb.com/~incrawfo and the
new cc would get something like
www.rootsweb.com/~incrawfo2
so much for credibility....we need to try to set people straight on
this.....it's wrong for this association to be happening..one is not the
other.
Dee
