Peggy,
All of the WPA stuff is on the microfiche and microfilms that have
been sold for as long as I have been doing research (over 40yrs) --
they can be purchased or borrowed from the LDS Library through any of
their branches.
It is these that I have been very slowly typing up and putting online
at the old Spencer Co (also Gibson and Perry Co) webpages and I keep
adding to these monthly as they get done -- but everyone wants their
name so I jump around and not starting from A going to Z in "normal"
fashion.........
Not in book form - about 10 yrs ago, if memory serves correctly, all
of the WPA stuff was on 3x5 cards in Indianapolis same as most all of
the wpa stuff for civil war soldiers, etc. were -- they may have put
in book form but I have never seen this way.
As for the theft -- you are definitely wrong there and one reason I
have written over 1,000 letters to various senators, house of reps,
governors, etc. asking they consolidate all the records for an
individual in one location -- I suggested that when a person died they
send this info to the place where person was born, or vice versa --
reason for suggestion is that not only do they go to cemeteries and
get dates of birth and death, but they also get info of where born
(many times in newspapers or cemetery records themselves) and then
they request copy of "their" birth certificate and then with this they
go to another state and get drivers licenses, credit cards, jobs and
lots more. They also do this from marriage and birth records and
death records at the courthouse itself....... my son TWICE had this
occur just because they found his place and date of birth on marriage
license and birth certificate itself.......had one heck of a time
since one of these times they requested another social security card
(said they had lost theirs) and couldn't recall number, etc and
because I (mother) had signed original request they had nothing to go
on to compare his signature with one on file, etc...of course for
married ladies it is a bit easier since when marrying they usually
sign their own request for name change on soc sec card...but not for
men. Just example -- it is 7 yrs since last theft and he is still
having problems with some of the things.......

wanted to create an index like the WPA's.

I wasn't even aware of WPA lists like this. They should be in book
form somewhere, I presume. How do we get hold of these lists? I'm
definitely interested in them for Spencer County.

California, their excuse is that we have lots of illegals from
Mexico who try
to steal identities through publication of records. It's a
crock,
though.
They can go downtown anywhere and buy phony papers on the street.
Nobody goes to
the trouble to try to steal someone's birth or death
information.
