I'm so sorry to interrupt Judy and Helen but Helen can you also please help
me look for my distant Grandmother in your Dubois cemetery book?
To begin, through the help of a very nice person I found my distant
grandfathers grave site James Harvey McFerrin and his last two wives and
lots of info on him and his last wifes also with photos of the graves. But I
just can't find his first wife Sarah McFerrin don't know her middle name if
she had one. Sarah and James had a farm in Dubois co.IN. Information found
is that she came off of James land deed sometime between 1860 and 1869 when
he remarried wife #2 in 1869 I think Sarah was 62 years old at the time of
her death.James and Sarah came first to Martin county in 1847 then to Dubois
co.and settled there . I believe that she is buried in Dubois co. some where
. Don't understand her not being buried next to him but who knows the
reason. Its funny that he is buried in the middle and each of his last wives
are on each side of him self.
Please can you look for me? Sarah was also called Sally as a nick name her
maiden name was Clapp both her and her husband came from Knox
countyTennessee. I would really like to find the first Grandmother from his
marriage the wife who bore his children and if lucky a picture of her grave
would just be wonderful.
Thank You Ken McFerrin Ken(a)KenMcFerrin.com

Helen,Do you perhaps have anything on where my ggg grandmother is
buried.?
I am sure that I have told you about her before.? But did not know that
you had a book of Dubois County Cemeteries, and it is next to impossible to
learn about them in Dubois Co.? Prudence (Prudy,Pudiah,Puddie,Brute) Mayo
b.?abt 1836. m.Dessick Walker in 1853.She may hav e died in childbirth
about 1869as that is when her last child was born and he married his
second wife in 1869 in Dubois County.? So I have an idea that Prudence
died in Dubois County.? Have found about all of his wife's? graves, except
Prudence's.? He was buried next to his last Wife,Matilda in Pike
County, and she got his pension from the Civil War. HE was 72 when he
married her and 75 when he died. So it kind of burns me up that they did
not put him by the wife who had his children!? So if you could look in
your book and see if there is a Prudence Walker or Prudence Mayo Walker in
it,I would sure appriciate it.? From what I hear he was!
a nice guy,but he? sure didn't let any grass grow under his feet! As I
said I may? have told you this before, but just wondered if you would try
to look it up.? I am n ot sure that these dates are right,as? my mother
and aunt both said that they remembered seeing? "grandpa Walker" that he
was with a grandma Mary and that he had been married 6 or 7 times, and the
last one was? to a lady who was related to his daughter (my g grandma's)
Elzina's inlaws.? Mom was b.1907 and her sister 1914.? So I am just not
sure that the death date is right.? Grandpa would have died the year mom
was born, and aunt Pat was not even born yet!? I just wonder is the dates
are right on his stone.? But my main thing is to find where Prudence is
buried right now.? Will deal with the rest later!
Judy
Your GW Goodman is buried in the Old Bethleham Cemetery just on the west
edge of Schnellville. He is not in the church cemetery. According
to the cemetery book I have, on his tombstone is the following:
G. W. Goodman (government stone) CO I 49th IN Infantry
(on the south side of the cem).
There are only 5 stones at this small cemetery, there were others, but no
stone.
