Joyce,
Something just popped in my head. I wonder if your local college might be
interested. I know a few years ago the Northern Kentucky University got
really excited about making copies of my photos, slides and movie film I
made while in Vietnam. I'll have to check with the NKU Library to see if
they would be interested.

Thank you. I've also wondered what would become of my work once I'm gone,
since nobody in my family seems interested.

Sharon,
Having watched this saga of the Schiller Family and your reply a thought
ccured to me. It has nothing to do with this subject though.
What happens to all your work after you are gone, as in passed on ?
This question popped in my mind sometime back when I realized no one in my
amily has shown any inclination to pick up where I have left off. Sooooo I
ontacted Bridget Stiker who is the head of the Family History at the
ibrary.
If I go first Maggie is to turn everything over to Bridget. Bridget said
she
ill go through my own family and send the trees within my tree to the
ibraries that can use the info. I would imagine the Kentucky Historical
ociety will get a copy also.
Just a thought, a morbid one though. Hehehe.
Maybe one of my Grandchildren will take up the torch later on in life.
Mike

Hello,
I read with interest these e-mails regarding the Schiller/Wirsing family.
My parents, Robert and Elfrieda (nee Hemmerlein) Heeke were born on farms
outside the town of Dubois, Dubois County, Indiana - both lived there
until the late 1930s. Both worked in Indpls, (abt 1937-1940) before
returning to St. Raphael's to be married in 1940. Lived the rest of their
lives in Indpls.
My name is Sharon (Heeke) Kennedy, and I live in the suburb of
Brownsburg/outside Indpls. I have been doing genealogy research since Feb
1977, and all of my lines are related to the Dubois, Jasper, Celestine,
Schnellville, area names.
Names -- father/Heeke; Neuhausel; Prechtel; Wassing; Brenges;
mother/Hemmerlein; Dornhoefer; Vogel; Freyberger; Schiller; Hacker;
I have always found the name Wirsing interesting -- as my gr grandmother
was Philomena Wassing Heeke's (b. 1851) Her mother (Adelheide
Brenges/Prenges) was married to Adolph Wassing. Adolph died in 1853, and
is noted in St. Joseph's Catholic Church records. I've seen several
spelling variations in the records. He was living in Louisville, KY in
the 1850 census. There was very little information on him in Jasper
records. Adelheide then married Henry Strotmann, and I have those
details, of which, Henry helped raise Philomena. She married Bernard
Heeke in 1870 - and they were wed until her death in 1913.
I've wondered if the name Wirsing was a variation on Wassing. Same with my
Doernhoefer line/and the Danhafers of that area. With the language
barriers/spellings, I thought they may be the same family line?
======================
I have researched the Schiller line off-on for years, but not a lot in
recent times. (2 binders filled with doc's, group sheets) I have many
copies of Hill Church records, that I've went thru for info early on. In
the 80s, I was privleged to have someone in Germany do research and
provide me with lineage sheets on the SCHILLER family my mother descends
from --- and related lines. Those records go back to the 1500's and are
very interesting. Each name is listed in a paragraph, with misc.,
notations, including the man's line of work.
Everything I have found on the Schiller's relates to MISTELBACH, BAVARIA.
This is a small village/town just south of Bayreuth. I visited the area on
a Cosmos tour in 1992 --- but was not able to stop in this village.
:-( The Hemmerleins were from Haag/Sahrmuhl by Haag. My German
researcher on the Hemmerleins told me about the area --- when she visited
Haag, and later several archives in Bavaria. (LDS does not have the
church records of this area -- however, I was told by my researcher that
some of that area's records are on micofiche at the Bayreuth
Archives/where she got my Hemmerlein emigration records.)
John Schiller's Will is dated Sept 1917. (assume this is the person b.
1834?) Book 6, page 616. I do question the name Wittelsbach -- and
believe it could in fact be Mistelbach? I didn't find Wittelsbach in my
German atlas.
Katharine (Hacker) Schiller was married to Thomas Schott first, and
several of the children in the census records belonged to him. He died
by drowning in 1854/after Katharine had divorced him. Children:
John/George.
Then she married John Schiller (census indicates he was b. 1834.
There is a John Schiller, Columbia twsp; b. abt 1810 in the 1880 census,
noting he was 70, and living with John L. Schiller, wife, Eve (Maier).
This John Schiller is noted as the "father." This coincides with the John
L. Schiller I found in the records/child of Johann Schiller/Marg.
Dornhofer, b. abt 1850 - which is MY line.
After doing updates on Ancestry today for various census records -- my
conclusion is these 3 Schillers are related to each other. Ancestry has a
much better view of records than they did some years ago when I worked on
this line more intensely.
Not living in the Dubois/Jasper area -- does create problems when I wish
to look at various records for my family!
My early line searched --- Johann Schiller, b. Sept 12, 1809, Mistelbach,
Bavaria; (he was a SHOEMAKER) He died Jan 24, 1895, Dubois. Married
Margaretha Dörnhofer, Dec 3, 1837 in Mistelbach. She died in 1868 near
Dubois; His Father: Matthaus Schiller, Mother Eva Rosina Bauer.
Margaretha Dörnhofer b. July 10, 1810, Geisenreuth, Bavaria. Died April
22, 1868 near Dubois, Dubois County, Indiana. Father: Johann
Dörnhoefer. Children of Johann and Margaretha I have listed are:
Margaretha, b. 1841 - my ancestor; Anna, b. 1844; John L, b. abt 1850;
Margaret, b. 1853; and Catherine, b. 1858.
Johann and Margaretha's dau Margaretha Schiller, b. May 26, 1841, d. 1926
was my gr grandmother, and married Johann Lorenz Hemmerlein in 1862.
(buried at Hill Church) My mother, Elfrieda, was the dau of Lawrence
Hemmerlein (b. 1871, mar. Margaretha Freyberger). Lawrence, who lived on
the Hemmerlein farm; later in Dubois; and later years with his son, Ed in
Sketterville, died in 1967 at age 96.
I would appreciate any comments on these families, and my conclusion of
the Schiller relationships!
Thanks, Sharon (Heeke) Kennedy
Brownsburg, Indiana

Hi Donna,
Thanks so much for your info. I was in the library reading the obits
(from what I could find) on Mary's siblings. The earliest I found
printed
was that of John Schiller (Mary's father) and it listed his living
children.
Mary was not included. John Schiller died Feb 14, 1924-- I have his
obit
pasted below. Yes, I have been to the Denbo Cem. It is all covered
with little ivy plants and is surrounded by woods. I took David
Wirsing's gr-gr-gr grandson from CA back there. Very, very few stones
are
visible. David and Agnes's dau, Caroline, has a stone that is barely
visible. There was no stone for David, but I did find a news article
that
he was the last person to be buried at Denbo (Sept 22, 1884). That 1905
death date you have-- would that possibly be for the daughter Mary
Schiller
Wirsing? I would love to see the info you have on the 1905 death.
Also, I have the news articles on Louis and his father David-- I can
email
them to you if you are interested. I think the prodigy email is
correct?
That is what came with this email. I really feel that Louis and Mary
left
the area about 1891 as a news article in the Jasper Courier states he
locked
up his blacksmilth shop and has skipped out-- no one knows where. And
there was a sheriff's sale on Feb 5, 1892 on Louis's property in
Haysville.
Below is the obit on John Schiller-- he is in Harbison Twp, Dubois
CO in the 1860, 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920 censuses. His wife died Aug
26, 1896. Thanks. Helen
Death Claims John Schiller, Pioneer Shoemaker of Dubois, Oldest Man called
Home
John Schiller, the oldest man in Harbison Twp, died at the home of
his son, Andrew Shiller, of dubois, Thurs, Feb 14, 1924. Death was due
to
the infirmities of old age. Mr. Schiller was born in Wittelsbach,
Bavaria, Germany, May 25, 1834. At the age of 16 he came to American
with
his parents who located at Haysville. In 1855 John Schiller and Mrs.
Katharine Schott were united in marriage. Sixteen children were born to
this union, five of whom preceded their father in death. The good wife
and
helpmate died twenty seven years ago.
For many years this estimable gentleman made his home with his
daughter, Mrs. Barbara Angerer but the last few years lived with the son
from which home he was called to his reward at the age of 89 yrs, 8 mos
and
29 da. The following children survive: John, Andrew, George, and
Eberhardt Schiller; Mesdames Elizabeth Angerer, Maggie Kalb, Anna Kress,
Barbara Angerer, Kathrine Britten, Dora Jones, and Christine Gardner.
An
aged brother, John L. Schiller, four sisters, mesdames Elizabeth
Liichauer,
Margaret Hemmerlein, Anna Beck and maggie kalb; 41 grandchildren, 42
great-grand-children; six sons-in-law and three daus-in-law; and a host of
relatives and friends are left, also to mourn his demise.
In his younger days, Mr. Schiller adapter himself to music and
becams a skillful clarinetist. Many of our older citizens can well
remember those days and can distinguish the tunes he often played. Mr.
Schiller was a shoe maker and followed his trade until a few years ago
when
his age forced him to retire. He was the oldest man in Harbison twp,
and
was awarded the Herald cane in the Herald Senority Contest last spring.
He was a member of St. Peter's church at Dubois (and one of its
founders), under whose auspices the funeral was held Sat afternoon at 2
p.m.. The Rev G. F. Kitterer, pastor of the church, officiated. The
funeral was one of the largest ever held in Dubois.

I also can't find Louis Wirsing after the 1880 census. Using info found
online I find Louis wife was Mary Schiller. She was the daughter of John
Schiller who died on January 24, 1905 in Dubois Co. Indiana. Maybe his
obituary would tell where his daughter Mary Wirsing was living. By the way
in the 1880 census they were living next to my great Grandparents Andrew &
Catherine Brosmer. Their daughter Mary being my Grandma. Also on the same
page was Andrew & Catherine Neihisel. They owned the farm where the Denbo
cemetery is on. They sold to my great Uncle Frank Nordhoff. My
grandparents
Tony & Helen Nordhoff moved there also to raise their family. After their
deaths the farm was bought by their daughter Rosie & Bob Gutgsell. Uncle
Bob
died this year. Their son lives on this farm. I have been up to this
cemetery years ago. I think there might be still some stones there. Have
you
ever been there? If you need anything I can help you with let me know.
Good
Luck with your search, Donna

I am wanting any info on Louis Wirsing
(lived at Schnellville) and Mary
Schiller, his wife-married Dec 26, 1889 in Dubois CO. Louis was a
brother to Amelia Wirsing who married John Zimmerman (part of my
Zimmerman-Keusch line). Louis belonged to David Christian Wirsing and
Agnes (nee Koellner) Barkhaus. They were Lutheran. David and
family
lived at Schnellville where he was a blacksmith. David was the last
burial in Sept 22, 1884 in the Denbo Cem, located on the Bob Gutgsell
farm.
Agnes is buried at St. Peter's UCC cem in Huff Twp, Spencer CO. I
have
all the children of David and Agnes accounted for except for Louis. Due
to
problems with the law, he and Mary left Dubois County by 1900-at least I
think they did.
Thanks for any info regarding this. Helen Zuber Keusch
