Hi,
My mother's sister was Tillie Hemmerlein Nordhoff of Dubois and she had three
dau's. Peggy, the middle child was married to Ed Wineinger. Note the spelling.
Peggy died about 8-10 yrs ago, but Ed still lives in Clear Lake, IA. He's
mentioned lots of relatives still living around Dubois County. Peggy was my first
cousin.
Peg and Ed were married in St. Raphael's, Dubois.
Peggy and Ed had 8 children -- but none live in Dubois County.
This is the only Wineinger I'm aware of in my lines. I'd have to ck my books
I've done --but think any others would be very distant!

Subject: Re: [INDUBOIS] wirsing-schiller input
Hello,
read with interest these e-mails regarding the Schiller/Wirsing family. My
arents, Robert and Elfrieda (nee Hemmerlein) Heeke were born on farms outside
he town of Dubois, Dubois County, Indiana - both lived there until the late
930s. Both worked in Indpls, (abt 1937-1940) before returning to St.
aphael's to be married in 1940. Lived the rest of their lives in Indpls.
y name is Sharon (Heeke) Kennedy, and I live in the suburb of
rownsburg/outside Indpls. I have been doing genealogy research since Feb 1977,
nd all of my lines are related to the Dubois, Jasper, Celestine, Schnellville,
rea names.
ames -- father/Heeke; Neuhausel; Prechtel; Wassing; Brenges;
other/Hemmerlein; Dornhoefer; Vogel; Freyberger; Schiller; Hacker;
have always found the name Wirsing interesting -- as my gr grandmother was
hilomena Wassing Heeke's (b. 1851) Her mother (Adelheide Brenges/Prenges) was
arried to Adolph Wassing. Adolph died in 1853, and is noted in St. Joseph's
atholic Church records. I've seen several spelling variations in the records.
e was living in Louisville, KY in the 1850 census. There was very little
nformation on him in Jasper records. Adelheide then married Henry Strotmann,
nd I have those details, of which, Henry helped raise Philomena. She married
ernard Heeke in 1870 - and they were wed until her death in 1913.
've wondered if the name Wirsing was a variation on Wassing. Same with my
oernhoefer line/and the Danhafers of that area. With the language
arriers/spellings, I thought they may be the same family line?
=====================
have researched the Schiller line off-on for years, but not a lot in recent
imes. (2 binders filled with doc's, group sheets) I have many copies of
ill Church records, that I've went thru for info early on. In the 80s, I was
rivleged to have someone in Germany do research and provide me with lineage
heets on the SCHILLER family my mother descends from --- and related lines.
hose records go back to the 1500's and are very interesting. Each name is
isted in a paragraph, with misc., notations, including the man's line of work.
verything I have found on the Schiller's relates to MISTELBACH, BAVARIA.
his is a small village/town just south of Bayreuth. I visited the area on a
osmos tour in 1992 --- but was not able to stop in this village. :-( The
emmerleins were from Haag/Sahrmuhl by Haag. My German researcher on the
emmerleins told me about the area --- when she visited Haag, and later several
rchives in Bavaria. (LDS does not have the church records of this area --
owever, I was told by my researcher that some of that area's records are on
icofiche at the Bayreuth Archives/where she got my Hemmerlein emigration
ecords.)
ohn Schiller's Will is dated Sept 1917. (assume this is the person b. 1834?)
ook 6, page 616. I do question the name Wittelsbach -- and believe it could
n fact be Mistelbach? I didn't find Wittelsbach in my German atlas.
atharine (Hacker) Schiller was married to Thomas Schott first, and several of
he children in the census records belonged to him. He died by drowning in
854/after Katharine had divorced him. Children: John/George.
hen she married John Schiller (census indicates he was b. 1834.
There is a John Schiller, Columbia twsp; b. abt 1810 in the 1880 census,
oting he was 70, and living with John L. Schiller, wife, Eve (Maier). This
ohn Schiller is noted as the "father." This coincides with the John L.
chiller I found in the records/child of Johann Schiller/Marg. Dornhofer, b. abt
850 - which is MY line.
After doing updates on Ancestry today for various census records -- my
onclusion is these 3 Schillers are related to each other. Ancestry has a much
etter view of records than they did some years ago when I worked on this line
ore intensely.
Not living in the Dubois/Jasper area -- does create problems when I wish to look
t various records for my family!
y early line searched --- Johann Schiller, b. Sept 12, 1809, Mistelbach,
avaria; (he was a SHOEMAKER) He died Jan 24, 1895, Dubois. Married
argaretha Dörnhofer, Dec 3, 1837 in Mistelbach. She died in 1868 near Dubois;
is Father: Matthaus Schiller, Mother Eva Rosina Bauer.
Margaretha Dörnhofer b. July 10, 1810, Geisenreuth, Bavaria. Died April 22,
868 near Dubois, Dubois County, Indiana. Father: Johann Dörnhoefer.
hildren of Johann and Margaretha I have listed are: Margaretha, b. 1841 - my
ncestor; Anna, b. 1844; John L, b. abt 1850; Margaret, b. 1853; and Catherine,
. 1858.
ohann and Margaretha's dau Margaretha Schiller, b. May 26, 1841, d. 1926 was my
r grandmother, and married Johann Lorenz Hemmerlein in 1862. (buried at Hill
hurch) My mother, Elfrieda, was the dau of Lawrence Hemmerlein (b. 1871,
ar. Margaretha Freyberger). Lawrence, who lived on the Hemmerlein farm; later
n Dubois; and later years with his son, Ed in Sketterville, died in 1967 at age
6.
I would appreciate any comments on these families, and my conclusion of the
chiller relationships!
Thanks, Sharon (Heeke) Kennedy

i Donna,
hanks so much for your info. I was in the library reading the obits
from what I could find) on Mary's siblings. The earliest I found printed
as that of John Schiller (Mary's father) and it listed his living children.
ary was not included. John Schiller died Feb 14, 1924-- I have his obit
asted below. Yes, I have been to the Denbo Cem. It is all covered
ith little ivy plants and is surrounded by woods. I took David
irsing's gr-gr-gr grandson from CA back there. Very, very few stones are
isible. David and Agnes's dau, Caroline, has a stone that is barely
isible. There was no stone for David, but I did find a news article that
e was the last person to be buried at Denbo (Sept 22, 1884). That 1905
eath date you have-- would that possibly be for the daughter Mary Schiller
irsing? I would love to see the info you have on the 1905 death.
lso, I have the news articles on Louis and his father David-- I can email
hem to you if you are interested. I think the prodigy email is correct?
hat is what came with this email. I really feel that Louis and Mary left
he area about 1891 as a news article in the Jasper Courier states he locked
p his blacksmilth shop and has skipped out-- no one knows where. And
here was a sheriff's sale on Feb 5, 1892 on Louis's property in Haysville.
Below is the obit on John Schiller-- he is in Harbison Twp, Dubois
O in the 1860, 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920 censuses. His wife died Aug
6, 1896. Thanks. Helen

John Schiller, the oldest man in Harbison Twp, died at the home of
is son, Andrew Shiller, of dubois, Thurs, Feb 14, 1924. Death was due to
he infirmities of old age. Mr. Schiller was born in Wittelsbach,

For many years this estimable gentleman made his home with his

In his younger days, Mr. Schiller adapter himself to music and

as awarded the Herald cane in the Herald Senority Contest last spring.
He was a member of St. Peter's church at Dubois (and one of its

I also can't find Louis Wirsing after the 1880 census. Using info found
nline I find Louis wife was Mary Schiller. She was the daughter of John
chiller who died on January 24, 1905 in Dubois Co. Indiana. Maybe his
bituary would tell where his daughter Mary Wirsing was living. By the way
n the 1880 census they were living next to my great Grandparents Andrew &
atherine Brosmer. Their daughter Mary being my Grandma. Also on the same
age was Andrew & Catherine Neihisel. They owned the farm where the Denbo
emetery is on. They sold to my great Uncle Frank Nordhoff. My grandparents
ony & Helen Nordhoff moved there also to raise their family. After their
eaths the farm was bought by their daughter Rosie & Bob Gutgsell. Uncle Bob
ied this year. Their son lives on this farm. I have been up to this
emetery years ago. I think there might be still some stones there. Have you
ver been there? If you need anything I can help you with let me know. Good
uck with your search, Donna

I am wanting any info on Louis Wirsing
(lived at Schnellville) and Mary
chiller, his wife-married Dec 26, 1889 in Dubois CO. Louis was a
rother to Amelia Wirsing who married John Zimmerman (part of my
immerman-Keusch line). Louis belonged to David Christian Wirsing and
gnes (nee Koellner) Barkhaus. They were Lutheran. David and family
ived at Schnellville where he was a blacksmith. David was the last
urial in Sept 22, 1884 in the Denbo Cem, located on the Bob Gutgsell farm.
gnes is buried at St. Peter's UCC cem in Huff Twp, Spencer CO. I have
ll the children of David and Agnes accounted for except for Louis. Due to
roblems with the law, he and Mary left Dubois County by 1900-at least I
hink they did.
Thanks for any info regarding this. Helen Zuber Keusch
