Dear Debbie,
My Lippoldt family settled in Pike County in mid 1850's having traveled
from Germany in 1843 on the Marianne
http://members.aol.com/lhchristen/marianne.htm
to Hanging Rocks, Ohio.
Henry Lippoldt, the patriarch helped found a church in Holland, IN. His
son Frederich married Elizabeth Dieckmann of Dubois county in 1856. One
of their daughters married Samuel Hemmer. Am including information that
I have on the Hemmer connection.
rom Evansville City Directory, 1904 is listed "Hemmer, Sam'l laborer
res 1709 E Delaware, Mrs. Eleanor"
At same address is listed "Lippoldt, Edward bookeeper
1221 E. Indiana
res 1709 E. Delaware"
I believe Edward's sister is Eleanor Hemmer.
In 1915 will of Frederick Lippoldt (my great-great grandfather) Dubois
County Book 6, page 459 recorded 20th day of May 1921, he lists his
living children in order of birth and #6 is Elenora Hemmer of
Allendal[e], Illinois. A younger brother Edmond Lippoldt is listed as #8
At the St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Holland, IN (Dubois County) there
are 4 markers with name Hemmer. First is Arthur Hemmer Mar 9, 1908 -
July 7, 1973; second Elenora M. Hemmer Sept. 27, 1906 - --- wife of
Arthur Hemmer; third is Elnora U. Hemmer Oct 29, 1876 - Feb 22, 1933
wife of Samuel M. Hemmer and fourth Samuel M, Hemmer Nov. 7, 1875 - June
1, 1964. Information is from pages of a compilation by Mrs. Arthur
Renner, Dubois County Chapter DAR of St. James death records
1862-1907(and cemetery readings). I saw the document at the Jasper
Library in June 1998.
On page 451 of Wilson's History of Dubois County is listed:
173. Elenora W. Hemmer (mother) Oct 29, 1876; Feb,22, 1933
I have a note of another Hemmer burial that I have not verified:
Frederich J. Hemmer 1809 - 1851 at Maple Grove Campground Cemetery which
is in Cass Twp, Dubois County.
Hope this helps you and your neighbor.

Hello.
I am new to this list. I am researching a line for my neighbors. We are
looking for information on a HEMMER FAMILY who immigrated ca. 1845 from
Germany. Christina Elizabeth HEMMER, b- Dec. 30, 1821, Germany, d- July 9,
1902. married Albert H. RIXSE b- July 30, 1821, Germany and d- Jan 21 1905.
They married 1850 in the US.
I have reason to believe that her father was John HEMMER, but have
absolutely no proof to that.
I am interested in communicating with anyone who has information on this
family who lived in Huntingburg, Dubois Co., IN
Thank you.
